Is it too frozen over in Tahoe to Boulder? Going to be nearby April 7th

It’s probably fair to guess that you’ll first have to dig out the boulders from all the snow.  The snow level is hundreds of inches deep around the Tahoe Basin.  Less at lake level but otherwise a lot, especially higher elevations.  And more is on the way this week.  A very different winter situation than the previous few years.

Thanks, all. Really appreciate the info.

There will likely be dry boulders just outside the Basin, check out the Washoe Boulders outside Carson City, or the low end of Woodfords.

Anyone know if the ice is in at Sunny Falls?

Hi all,

Going to be in Tahoe for skiing this weekend (April 14-16) and was thinking of squeezing in some bouldering between ski-days.

I see that Sugarloaf is good to go, but I'm having trouble finding any guides on the bouldering there, if any (either in MP or the Bouldering Lake Tahoe South Shore Guidebook).

Anyone know about the Phantom Spires boulders conditions? Namely Lincoln Boulders or Phantom Blocks areas?

Open if anyone has any other recs, or should I just leave the pads at home? I have access to the Bouldering Lake Tahoe books other than the Outlying Areas.

Thanks!

Woodfords Canyon is prime right now which is covered in the Bouldering Lake Tahoe-Outlying Areas Edition. Sugarloaf is covered in Lake Tahoe Bouldering by Swift and McNamara.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
