The WDNR is moving forward with a Master Plan that completely fails to address climbing in Wisconsin's Central Sands.

They have also given the public very little time to respond: comments are due 15 Feb (Wednesday) by 11am.

We need everyone and their brother and sister to let the Natural Resources Board that we oppose this plan. I plan to testify in person.

If you climb in Wisconsin, or plan to, send an email to dnrnrbliaison@wisconsin.gov, telling them you oppose this plan because it failed to include any mention of climbing.

Short and sweet is just fine.

When submitting a written comment, please provide the following information to the Board Liaison:

  1. Your name.
  2. Name of organization(s) you represent (if none, state that you are "representing self").
  3. Agenda item number (4B, approval of Central Sand Plains Regional Master Plan) and whether you support or oppose it.
  4. City of residence.
  5. Phone number.
  6. Email or mailing address, so the Board Liaison can reply to your written comment.

Thanks for making people aware of this. What would it mean for rock climbing in WI if this plan does go through?

Please Please Please Wisconsin climber folks! Act on this issue before 11am Wednesday Feb 15.  We could be climbing on these formations at some point

Emailed.  Sad to see how hard the you and the rest of the community works just to have it fall on deaf ears.

It makes it much much harder to talk to property managers about things like access, bolts, or even stewardship projects.  While we have found a few DNR staff here and there that we can work with, there are many who have refused to even talk with us over the years.  It shouldn't be this hard to find common ground.
