Anyone in the Valley? Curious what the ice fall has looked like this week at the base of El Cap, whether it’s mellowing out or not since the last storm. Weather is looking so good on Christmas that it’s tempting to try and find a partner if the top out is doable.
I climbed the freeblast on Saturday. There were nickel-sized chunks of ice coming down when the sun hit the rim, and they stopped falling after about an hour. In the afternoon, two separate big blocks of ice came down and exploded way above us, showering us with stuff up to like half dollar sized.
Here is a photo from the East Ledges descent a couple weeks ago. The good news is the fixed lines are in amazing condition. Unfortunately there will be even more snow now, and the most recent storm shut down HW 140. Very wet here at the moment. Hope this helps the decision making process.
