Transition Sunglasses
|
|
TLDR: Need a pair of transition lenses. I need a pair of transitions sunglasses for all activities I do. I tend to find myself walking/riding/skinning in the dark and staying out till the light comes out. This usually means me carrying two sunnies or a couple different lenses. Adds weight and takes up space. I would like to have a one pair do it all. I ski/bike/run/climb so having a pair that is large enough to cover my eyes and wraps around the sides so I am not blinded or have air coming rushing in. Oakley does not seem to have a pair and the only “sport” ones I can find are Pit Vipers…. And I do not want to look IIke a douche. Anybody has suggestions?? |

Julbo has photochromic sunglasses that may meet you needs. |

I have a pair of Smith Embarks with the photochromic lenses and I love them |

Julbo 0-3 is good if you're wearing them in low light situations. 0 can let in around 85% of light IIRC, I usually wear them skinning in the woods/ skiing pow |

I have the Smith Shift Mag with the Photochromic lens and like them. I do a lot of bike rides that go into the night, and they’re perfect. I haven’t skied in them yet, but I don’t get any wind in my eyes on the bike. I sweat a lot and am getting quite a bit of rust on the magnets, so if I was buying again I might get the Wildcats and just deal with looking like Cody Townsend. *edit - shift Mag, not attack. |

I use a Julbo 1-3 for the most part in the lower 48, they work great |

Opticus has a variety of photochromatic/transition lenses |

+1 for the Julbo photochromatic lenses. I have several Julbo sunglasses with photochromatic lenses, and they allow me to wear the same pair all day long. |

I might have to look into some of the recommendations here. I had a pair of Bolle Shifter glasses. The lenses did a good job from low to high light conditions. Definitely a little light for blasting sun. In the pursuit to drop grams, the frames were extremely flimsy and broke on me several times. I wouldn’t recommend them due to the frame. The range of the lens was pretty good though. I’d also caution against the cheap “rockbros” glasses on Amazon. Their lens goes from clear to almost clear. Utter garbage. |

Will Shawwrote: I was hoping to avoid the knock off cody look…. But my Hyperlight bag isn’t helping me escape it |

I use the Julbo Rush 1-3 HC for trail running and some hiking and they work well. Can use dark to dark. IE Dark enough that I'd use a headlamp or waist light even if I wasn't using them. That little zone of how much later I'd go before turning on lights when its getting dark if I wasn't wearing the glasses is only like a minute or 2, which is negligible to me. Light transmission: |

Just realized I had the wrong mode in my first post. I like the Shift Mag. I had the Attack Mag, but it broke really quickly. Don’t buy the Smith Attack Mag even though most places that still have it are selling it cheap. |

Spencer Ralstonwrote: I sometimes use clip-ons, but then I'm a trad dad. For multipitch, I always want a spare pair of glasses anyway in case I drop or break the pair I'm wearing. I've tried transition sunglasses and had a couple of problems. One was that when I came inside it would take a while for them to go clear. The other was that when I left them in a hot car, the coating was destroyed by the heat. |

Julbo mont bianco with camel photo chromatic/polarized lenses that tint up to level 4. I have blue, very light sensitive eyes and these are the only shades I can stand the glare and intensity of the sun. Found my first pair on clearance at Sierra Trading post before it turned into a Kohl's haha the second pair I found cheap on ebay |
