The lock on my car doesn't work anymore because someone shoved a screwdriver in the lock to jimmy it open at the first pullout. That was summertime, but it happens busy times as well.

If you are travelling and have valuables that you cannot store somewhere safe then you can go to the red rock resort and check a bag while you are "utilizing the resort", whether you are a guest or not. They have no way to know that you leave and go climbing in the canyon, just tip well. Leaving valuables in the car is highly risky and also incentives the thieves more because they are successful getting valuable stuff.

IDK if the gyms or the climbing shop will hold bags for you, might be worth researching.

I had my car broken in to at the Pine Creek TH last spring. It was at dusk. My friend's purse was visible through the window. They smashed the window, grabbed the purse, and went right to stores nearby to use the cc's. Fortunately we came within a few minutes and were able to call the bank as they were using the cards.

Had someone attempt to break into my van at Red Rock Casino when I was sleeping inside of it early this morning.

They only managed to get chased. They were wearing a hi visibility vest. Looked like construction or a parking lot cleaner.

My mom always said beware of a man in a uniform

You sure it was an attempted break-in or just being rousted?

I had thought of that originally as well. Then I noticed on one of the side windows that vents had been forced open as well.
They had jimmied the track off and got it partially open. Screen was no longer intact and the track line was open.

Either way. None of the other vans or campers in the area were run off.

Can someone setup a sting operation at the first pullout?

Hide in the back with blankets or bags over you, leave a rope and rack out in the back seats, sit and wait.

Once open, pop up, pepper spray them and others catch him before hopping in the getaway car.

We’ve stopped climbing in Red Rock because of thefts. I bet locals are happy there are less climbers?

Now that you mention it, no. Locals aren't particularly happy to be thought of as so selfish and uncharitable that they would be pleased to see that others have been, or must fear to be, victims of crime. The same crime, by the way, that locals can be prey to.

Locals do have the benefit of emptying their vehicle at their house and leaving their car completely open for anyone to rifle through.

But anyways, no takers on the sting operation?

I'm game but whats with the pepper spray shit? I prefer a shot to the groin with rubber buckshot. Not gonna run anywhere.

Why don’t you do it?

It would be my luck that I drive all the way there to attempt a sting and no one breaks in. We need someone like you to do it. Can go during the busy theft season.

I’ll do it if I can borrow someone’s car, not waiting till my windows get smashed out to find out there’s a thief afoot.

A car with a remote operated window that is open 3 or 4 inches could be both lure AND trap.

Anybody know what a "lizard's tail" is? A wallet with a cash envelope that appears to hold hundreds but is actually the useless cut ends of some C notes which is thrown on the ground when mugged while the mugee runs the other way with the gold.

Just leave one on the front seat and hide.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
