Any one have experience with both of these boots and why you would choose one over the other?
I have G2s and tower Trango extremes, looking for something to bridge the gap primarily for ice climbing and single day alpine objectives. My feet do tend to run cold.
Is sportiva boots for me well as do the phantom tech I just want some advice from people who have used both.
The g5’s are the slightest touch warmer, but the phantom techs are more waterproof, have better ankle flex, have a slightly stiffer shank, and hold a petzl toe bail like 10x better. Having used both boots extensively between CO, WA and CA in a variety of seasons, the phantom techs are no question the winner for me. I do miss the boa sometimes.

Thanks for that answer dude, that’s exactly what I was looking for. I do a lot of winter alpine climbing here in CO and early spring in the PNW. The phantom tech felt much lighter and less bulky but I was afraid that would lead to significantly less warmth.
I find my feet get much colder in my Phantom techs vs original G5s. The G5 Evo is supposedly warmer and more water resistant while being a bit more bulky. I prefer the G5 for most ice and use the Phantoms for mixed and in the PNW where the snow is wet.
La Sportiva is coming out with a new boot called the g-tech, aimed at competing with the phantom tech. It will probably be a tad warmer than the phantom tech , and has boa. I have the g5 evo and find them a little sloppy, but super comfy and warm. Coming from the nepals into the g5 evo the seemed les precise and sensitive but a better overall fit.
