Patagonia doesn't have anything I truly love, Arc'teryx has the FL365 harness (discontinued) and the Squamish and atom jackets which are some of my favorite pieces of gear/clothing.

Patagonia northwall is the only pieces I’ve really loved from them.  Amazing for cold ice trips and alpine climbing

Patagonia Grade V11 down parka is probably the most involved pattern making and sewing of any jacket, ever.  It is a masterpiece.  Historically, they've made a bunch of unique and sometimes goofy products just because YC was into it (reef sandals, tump line, etc).

Mainland China fashion is their new focus. My friends who used to work for Arcteryx in Vancouver say “It’s time to find another brand, if you haven’t already“. They seem to think technical innovation at Arcteryx is over.

That would explain the discontinuation of the amazing Alpha FL and the Dullay/Nuclei belay jackets. Thank goodness Mountain Equipment has some fantastic offerings.

I get very streetwear vibes, but Swedish outdoorsy. Not as "clean" an aesthetic as Arcteryx, but definitely has those vibes a bit.

I joke... but that primaloft tee... hmm... no... no I musn't.

I absolutely hate their ads. Some anorexic guy standing in the street looking constipated. Almost makes me not want to buy anymore clothes from them

Don’t get me started. It’s either that or some obese glampers for some body positivity bullshit.

Patagonia sizing is weird for me. Most of their best garments are discontinued. I am absolutely in love with my OG nano air light hoody though, and loved my R3. I have a 20 year old arc heavy baselayer that has been worn thousands of days and still feels brand new. I can't afford their shit though, but at least the few items I have are far superior in build quality and design than Patagonia. Rab is maybe my favorite.

Having a 34" inseam and a 32" waist is a PITA.  The Arc Gamma LT size Med/Tall is the only thing that fits me really well, and even then, the pants are slightly too long because their "Tall" is 35". Once the leg cuff drawstrings are cinched a bit though, they fit pretty good.  Expensive af but durable, so it's the best thing I've found so far for climbing that fits and is functional and somewhat durable.  Nothing Patagonia fits me except tshirts.

Try having a 36" inseam and 32" waist. Needless to say, I feel your pain. I have found that Kuhl pants fit me well. Downside is that I have to order my size directly from them since no retailers carry such an odd size.

I have also heard from recent ex-employees. They have said that the company that owns Arc'teryx makes significant contributions to the Chinese Communist Party related events. This is why the president of China has been wearing Arc'teryx in public.

I do not speak or read Chinese, so cannot confirm this in the Chinese language media. So take this as you will.

There are many more wonderful companies and gear makers than these, but Yvon Chouinard is a smidge better than Arcteryx owned by a holding company (Anta Sports)? 

Patagonia definitely wins in the virtue-signaling department.

Klättermusen is a joke. Their old stuff was indestructible, but ever since they had their asses saved by some venture capitalists their gear has sucked. Horrid design choices, over-priced, too many non-functional features sold as innovations.

Harness: petzl/ cilao
Backpack: Exped

Don’t get me wrong, they do make great products and I own some of them (jacket, beanie, hardsell… even Patagonia shoes)
I just think you can find better offering elsewhere.

I just think you can find better offering elsewhere. 

Boots/shoes : Whatever fits best - many major brands make very high quality shoes
Clothings: Whatever fits best and has features/materails you need (more like want) - several major brands make high quality clothes
Harness: Whatever fits and feels best. I'm between sizes in Petzl and BD, but my Dead Bird fits perfectly
Backpack: Pick the right size, materials for weight/durability and features - brand doesn't really matter that much

I kind of the opinion that buying anything second hand is better than buying anything new. And yeah go with what works for you, Arc’teryx fits me perfectly so I never have to worry about sizing, just buy large and carry on. For down though no one beats feathered friends.
