New Hampshire top roping suggestions
|
|
I need suggestions. I would like to camp and climb with some friends in the New Hampshire area. We are not comfortable lead climbing yet so we need routes that can be hiked to for anchoring on bolts to top rope. Unsure if there’s a good area for that around here. |

Pawtuckaway State Park - Short cliffs but many options, lots of cracks some faces. Also bouldering is sweet. Campground is pretty nice too though it is on other side of park from climbing. Square ledge, PInkahm Notch - Taller cliff, mostly face climbing 5.5 - 5.10. Great views plenty Elephants Head, Crawford Notch - Good sized cliff, mostly easy 5.5 - 5.7, short approach cool rock. Jockeys Cap - Fryeburg Maine, only 15min from N. Conway lots of good options from the top. Mostly face climbing, dries fast if it rains sweet views, short walk. |

Be advised that in many cases you will need to build an anchor with gear and/or static line and you may also need to protect your approach to the anchor. |

Little Mona Lisa at Artists Bluff has bolted top anchors you can walk to - I’m pretty sure! I know you can walk to the top for certain. |

If you are in Southern NH, Den Rock Park is just over the border in Mass and has a few really fun TR climbs with easy top access right off the trail (watch those edges!) with fixed hardware Also, it is super close to Tripoli Pizza & Bakery, which is awesome |

Josh Rappoportwrote: She wants to camp and I wouldn’t recommend camping anywhere in that area! Though Den Rock to kill a few hours is actually kinda fun. It would be nice to know where the OP is coming from! |

Mark NHwrote: It does but getting to those bolts is actually a little bit exposed. I feel like most of the time you can walk to bolts they are going to be on a narrow ledge (because otherwise there would be rope drag), or over the edge. |

Nothing easier than granite 5.9, but this little cliff in Crawford Notch has bolts you can walk to: mountainproject.com/area/11… |

^ Crawford Cliff is such a great option and setting up the TR is foolproof. Plenty of camping options in the notch too. |
