I've been reading forum posts here regarding Lime Park's poopy problems and the creek's giardia problem, but haven't seen any recent info. The pooping isn't an issue for us. Not that we don't poop of course, but we're very conscientious and considerate, and we're leave no trace campers. We do, however, have a dog, and we know we won't be able to keep him out of the water. From what was posted previously, the creek is so polluted that dogs are getting giardia. Not something we want to have to deal with. Judging from what we've seen our pup chow down on, he's got an iron stomach, but I suppose there's always a limit. If anyone has actual information regarding the cleanliness/pollution of the creek, I'd really appreciate hearing about it. Thx!

have you considered keeping your dog on a leash so it doesn't have the option to jump into the water?

I’ve been to lime creek many times and never had a problem keeping my dogs out of the water. It’s only really accessible when you are walking over it to get to the climbing areas so keep your dog leashed and it shouldn’t be an issue. Didn’t know about water contamination issues there but it’s been 2+ years since I’ve been.

Cattle dog. High energy, needs lots of running, loves water, and has super good recall and manners. We live pretty rurally--Bishop, CA--and rarely leash him. If the water is indeed contaminated, I'd simply opt for another place. But I have a friend who really wants to meet there, and I'm just trying to get information. I do fully understand what the dog options are.

I think most streams in CO have giardia, so I wouldn’t worry about it.   Bring lots of extra water for the dog so he doesn’t gulp from the creek.

So dogs need to be on a leash in National forest lands?
If the dog is sight & sound controlled??

Where did the poster mention about not following rules?

Dogs must always be under strict leash or voice control.

We do, however, have a dog, and we know we won't be able to keep him out of the water.

Sounds like it.

Some friends were just there with two dogs for 5 days.  They saw no evidence of the poop problems and the dogs have been fine FWIW.

Hopefully people have started being more careful with their waste.

(Sorry you got lectured about your dog on this thread)

Pets are allowed in all national forests, but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times while in developed recreation areas and on interpretive trails. Most other areas within the national forests do not require dogs to be on a leash, but they should be under control at all times.

I will make sure the poster in question is aware that the interpretive trail on the way to the developed cliff is leash law in effect.    Haha.  I am mostly just trolling you, since you flexed on the MolehillProject about dogs.   If you contributed to the conversation about waterborne disease, sorry I missed that..

I don't see anywhere in that link that states any rules that will be broken. Plus, that's not even the same national forest. Am I missing something? I hope so, otherwise you're just posting links proving his point lol.

It's distressing to me that that gorgeous mountain meadow is now a shit pile.

All the more reason to not publicize such places

Thanks very much!! That's the information I needed. And FWIW, our dog is under very good voice control (this is for everyone who replied), plus we always carry a leash to protect him from any suspected dangers, when necessary. But he does love water, and we allow him to partake when it's considered safe.

Yoooo the Enormo guy said crag dogs are canceled?? That stuffs written in stone now! Fluffy stays home Mom and Dad send the proj. Fluffy comes mom and Dad clean up van life poopies! All jokes aside I have two cattle dogs and though they are the best thing since sliced bread. Dem suckas stay leashed up at all times at the crag. Why? Because no one else should have to like my dogs. Only me they are all mine.

Y'all ever see working dogs unleashed in public? They are by definition top of the line listeners. Go climb keep Fluffy tied up in the shade and give them mouth kisses after each send. Why will you send? Because you afforded yourself the mental space to focus on climbing. Not your dog pooping in your #vanlife.

If you're really concerned about the water, take one for the team and take a little sippy poo and report back to us. We don't deserve our dogs you can atleast test the Colorado Kool-aid for them.
