New tc pro durability

Is anyone else having durability issues w the new tc pros? I got mine in the fall and have two holes in the toes and the rubber is starting to delaminate by my mid foot. I don’t think my footwork is that shitty and I do use them a lot but it still feels like a pretty short lifespan compared to the previous gen.

Yes, less durable rubber. Two holes in my toes in just 4 months of climbing.

My partner busted his shoelaces 3 times and also blew a hole in the toe cap and sole in about 80 pitches.  Meanwhile, my old TC's have only have the rubber delam on the sides in the same number of pitches.

No issue yet. But I haven’t climbed in them as much. I’ve been rotating my old tc’s and generals cause the new model gives me hot spots next to the plastic lace protectors on both feet.

Just wait til Scarpa releases the new Generator next year

That’s something to look forward to. Maestro’s didn’t really do it for me.

I’ve got about 50 pitches in these, and the left shoe is showing quite a bit of wear. The rubber is wearing much faster than I would’ve figured, given it’s for edging, but the real issue for me is the delaminating on the inside of the toe. I had a pair of 5.10s do this before and was unsuccessful in gluing it back together, so here I just snipped away some pieces of the delaminating part to try and keep it from catching and peeling more.

The right shoe, by the way, is totally fine.

The rand strip on the inside of both my shoes have completely delaminated in just a couple months. Currently trying to warranty them. Probably the last pair of TC pros i'll ever buy

There's another thread with a similar "chewed-up texture" to some shoes with XS Edge. I wonder if Vibram's had some bad rubber recently? Either way, not a good look.

Edit: Here's the other thread with an Instinct VS: mountainproject.com/forum/t…

Yeah I don’t recall ever having this “chewed up” issue on any of my past shoes, so a bad batch would make sense. I have been lucky though and haven’t experienced any of the rand delam issues that other folks have.

Might be worth warrantying? Or you could just climb on it and resole when it starts failing a bit more. Have you noticed a difference in performance?

Can’t speak on difference in performance- my first pair of tc pros. But I do like them quite a bit- they climb very well for how comfortable they are. I thought about warrantying, but I’ll likely just resole a bit sooner than I had hoped.

Not necessarily a durability issue, but the quality control on the new TC’s is trash. My right shoe came with a significantly thinner edge than the left shoe. I’ve seen others in stores where the edge was grounded at such an angle that the toe box extends way over the edge rubber. I’ve also heard through the grapevine that sportiva was making the old TC’s again; can anyone corroborate?

Haven't heard that, but I know they're going to have more competition with the Scarpa Generator and Evolv Yosemite Bum.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
