Oddly Specific Shorts Question
|
|
Does anyone have a pair of shorts they’d recommend; meeting the following criteria:
I see the other threads on here suggesting prana shorts but they don’t appear to have a closing pocket big enough. I usually don’t bring my phone, but I’m starting to believe that my friends deserve to have their picture taken too… |
|

I don’t wear shorts so I’m no help there, but there are a lot of pants that meet those specifications. You could always find some pants you like and cut them into shorts. It would likely be an expensive pair of shorts though. |

have you considered cargo shorts? They sell them at Wal Mart. |
|
|
Take a look at the Rab radius cargo short Also you can get the Eddie Bauer guide shorts on sale pretty cheap and they have great pockets. |

Fanny pack and a tether for your phone. Way better than having it in your pants pocket. It is the way. |

These look perfect. I’ll give them a try! K GoGoGadget wrote: MORE things around your waist? Seems like it might get clustered up with the rack, draws, and chalk bag. |

A kind person on the forum gifted me a pair of Kuhl thin softshell pants. I liked them so much I got another and cut them into multipitch shorts to wear with tights and/or knee pads, depending on the objective. They're slim fit, very lightweight but durable (survived a season of hardscaping labor work), super stretchy, and have a zippered cargo pocket. They come in a righteous digital camo as well. And, oddly enough, have a dual belay zipper on the fly (?!). Re: photos. Thank you for taking them. I don't comprehend how some people can't be bothered to snap a follower shot on a rad objective. It literally costs you two calories of effort to do, and can make your partner's day (Shoutout to Noah and Tanner for doing well at this). To prevent dropping a seven-hundred-dollar bill into the maw, I use a 1.5mm accessory cord tether girthed to the two microphone cutouts on my iFone Mini case, then throw the phone around my neck when lead belaying, or in the pocket + girthed to leg loop for climbing and top belaying. This allows me to be a super premium belayer and literally drop the phone onto the tether if I need to manage slack quickly. Tanner and me on the world's best 5.7 offwidth pitch in Boulder. |

Demetri, I have a couple different pair of these and they work well: |

My favorite shorts right now are the Patagonia Nine Trails. I wear them for pretty much every activity. They have 3 zippered pockets (2 front, 1 rear), and the front pockets fit an iPhone 12 with Otterbox. They do have a boxer-brief liner which I was hesitant about when purchasing, but they turned out to be much more comfortable than all my prior shorts/underwear combos Get black, other colors show junk a bit too much for around town ;) |

These are the best shorts ive found for climbing so far. Supper stretchy, really breathable, and have two zippered pockets on the sides that can hold pretty large phones. Bought a pair last june and have worn them im guessing at least 200+ days since either climbing, mtb riding, and hiking. Still holding up strong. No belt required its a plus as well. https://yeticycles.com/gear/detail/mason-short Well loved not for sale XL on the left and the almost new Large on the right. |

Very happy with Rab Incline Light Shorts - just make sure you order the right size (their charts are accurate) |

I was going to go in the trail running direction as well and mention the Patagonia Nine Trails. Has a brief, but I cut it out and bring my own underwear. |

I've honestly been incredibly impressed with the wrangler technical pants from Walmart. The material is a little on the thick side but it's surprisingly durable and breathable and are very stretchy. The cargo pockets are just barely big enough for my phablet. At $20 a pop you could turn them into shorts with a care (I think they also have shorts but not sure they have the same pocket). Also really like that it's a rivet type button on the fly so I never have to worry about my gut popping it and then having to hike out with pants falling down. |

As someone living a hot and humid sub tropical climate I would recommend the La Sportiva Granito shorts. I have two pairs of them. They are much thinner and stretchier than the prana Zion shorts. It’s a pretty noticeable difference when the temperature and humidity really start to go up. There is a big zipper pocket on the right side that can fit an iPhone 11 pro with the catalyst case. There is a seller in the US that still has a few pairs for really cheap on eBay(lots of other random Sportiva clothing as well). The inseam is a bit longer in the pair that I just bought than my prana Zion shorts. Very comfortable and thin. La Sportiva has lots of other random shorts but they are usual much thicker or made of cotton. The only down side is no rear pockets but this isn’t an issue for me with pants I use for climbing or gym stuff(yoga, weights, etc). |
