Whitney Portal Road Conditions?

Anyone been up recently? How far can you drive?

No significant snow -- I biked up to Horseshoe Meadows today, and it was cold and windy, but dry.  The Portal road was gated where it turns into the canyon, so you have an extra mile or so to walk.

Curious, does anyone know how far it is from the gate closure to the actual trailhead? Sean suggests it's like a mile, although I thought I saw an account on the Whitney Facebook page that it's more like 2.2 miles.
