Anyone know where this will be?

I saw  in the paper today that 16 homes wi be built at The Reserve at Red Rock Canyon.

It says,  the homes will be " situated within the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, " with   miles of private land.," eventually  offering spring fed ponds and such.

Not exactly climbing  related, so flag me if you want but,  but I'm curious  as to where exactly is this located?

How did this happen in a " conservation area"?

The same way there are private homes in Yosemite National Park. Exceptions. Carve-outs.

It's located on the site of the former Bonnie Springs Ranch.

You folks need to learn how and where to pick your battles, particularly if you live in Clark County.  This could have easily been a casino based on current use and zoning.  Or 300+/- single family homes/condos, with a much bigger impact on the reserve, lighting, water, etc.  Billionaires love Vegas, it is capitalism on steroids.  They won't even live in these homes full time.  If you want to live and play in or near Vegas, check your delusion at the county line or move or climb somewhere else.  Pollution and impact on natural resources will not abate during your lifetime.  That ship sailed decades ago.  Local and state political will is well matched with the average Vegas citizen.

Hey Marc, thanks!  Totally right I could have googled the project vs just looking at the developer  website.

I stayed at Bonnie Springs once.

I remember thinking what a tired hotel it had become.

But this development  is much sadder than a tired hotel in my opinion.

No worries! While I might tease for not Googling, I'll always provide appropriate links to answer the question, otherwise it would just be snarky and rude.

Could also just write “jealous”

Lemme guess, you’re on the side of the rich because one day you too will own a $20 million dollar home?

I’ve actually been making more money than I’ve ever made in my life. Quite happy. What upsets me is the overall slide towards disparity, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. If you’re cool with that, then fine, be a heartless bastard.

And definitely not jealous. There is no way I’d ever live in something so grotesque. I can afford more, but I’ve lived in my non-sprinter van for six years, let’s see you try that.

Leela: Why are you cheering, Fry? You're not rich!
Fry: True, but someday I might be rich. And then people like me better watch their step.

Not Hobo Greg, according to the above links posted by Marc801 C, cheapest lot is $6.6M and houses will start at $20M.

Just to clarify, the homes will likely be in that $20M range, but that's not the starting price. There are also some interesting restrictions, specifically limiting the size of any one building to 7500 sq ft (but there can be multiple buildings*) and limits on the size of the second floor.

*: the idea is to prevent 20K sq ft monstrosities.

Considering that it could have been a casino or other large scale development, this may be the best outcome.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
