After driving through Crawford Notch en route to Smugglers notch last summer, I was struck by the prominence and steepness of the cliffs above/north of the Arethusa Falls parking lot (what I understand to be the Frankenstein Ice climbing area). Is there any history of established rock routes there? Too chossy? The quality looked solid from afar.
Some rock routes in Webster’s guidebook, I’m sure more since, but in general the rock is quite chossy—at best. I am surprised that Jerry Handren didn’t include Crawford Notch in his book, so that area doesn’t seem to be included in any current guidebook.
I do recall doing a decent short layback there—Bride if Frankenstein or something like that, but even there the exit was pretty crumbly.
