Olive Oil for warmth

Anyone try taking few ounces of olive oil along on alpine climbs to drink to get some easy calories? I regularly get nauseous to the point of puking at lower elevations (11,000-12,000ft) this makes it hard for me to eat during these long days. I figure olive would go down easy and help keep me warm/energized in these type of scenarios.

Pre snake a feeding tube through your nose and inject liquid energy into your system at regular intervals. #lifehack

Oo olive oil poops are going to be rowdy. Have you considered peanut butter, or something with a bit more fiber?

I ain’t scared of shit.

That is a good idea and I’ll probs give it a try but still worried it may be hard for me to choke down.

Isn't there an old Yvon Chouinard lore of him climbing in Antarctica and near bonking? And like Popeye, he busts out a vile of olive oil and feels the resurgence to ramble upward? Mtn Vinson maybe?

Not much else out there can beat it when it comes to calories per ounce.

edit:

may i suggest sardines in olive oil? After the sardines are down, you can choke the rest of the remaining oil. then smear the residue on your hands to keep them from drying out too much.

Guaranteed to smell like a daisy when you get back to camp.

Yep, that’s where the idea came from, this story is mentioned in Twights extreme alpinism

Popeye's girl is named Olive Oyl; Popeye eats spinach for strength.

Can you do liquid calories, mixed with your water? Your body can process just so many calories/hour and an olive oil bomb isn't going to get around that. Try something like this product:

Not @#$% Sherlock! i sometimes wonder if you ever get tired of checking others with your infinite armchair wisdom across the www of online climbing?

i figured Bug Boy was smart enough to see the similarities between Yvon and Popeye. Busting out a vile of oil versus a can of spinach. at least i gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Buuut ooohh hell no! not you! You had to spell it out.

thanks LR.

dear God maybe i should try edibles...

honestly, it was word play. but was lost. Choking down straight up oil of any kind is vile imo.

I bring evoo in a small nalgene and mix it into the couscous at night. Pretty darn tasty.

If it helps you get a grip on yourself, by all means.

I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil to add calories to my intake at the end of hard days. I don't eat/drink it during activity, it's hard for my body to perform and digest fat at the same time. I eat carbohydrates during activity. I do eat small amounts of protein during rests.

Eating fat before bed helps me stay warmer as I sleep. Olive oil, cream cheese packets, and peanut butter are my usual go to's. If I'm well hydrated I'll drink 1oz of whiskey. I notice a positive difference in my circulation and sleep. More than 1oz seems detrimental and I skip it altogether if I don't think I've hydrated enough.

Eating plenty of protein in the morning and evenings helps my recovery and performance substantially.

Excerpt from “extreme alpinism” by Marc twight if anyone is interested

300-400 Cal/hr seems like a lot to me. 4,200 calories over a 14 hr day=18 snickers bars

Max i can input is about 250-300 cal/hr for about three to four hours

If you do this multiple days in end you will poop a lot, just FYI. More input more output. Be ready with wagbags

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
