RIP: 5.10 Grandstones
|
|
Spoke with Adidas support earlier this year and they mentioned Grandstones weren't being carried anymore. Since then been slowly buying a few more. This morning confirmed that REI are down to their last pairs and Backcountry hasn't restocked in a while. Great shoe, comfortable, and good all around. My favorite for Trad, but does well on sport also. Sadly unparallel doesn't have a Grandstones replacement, so Get them while you can. |

For those that need to stock up, here's a shameless plug that I have some size 8 Adidas Grandstones for sale. Used ~5 times; they don't fit my wide feet. $120 shipped. https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/121337329/fs-five-ten-grandstones-size-8-120-like-new#ForumMessage-121345285 |

I just bought a pair from Backcountry Gear last week and have two other pair with one resole on one pair so far. I'm gunna do my best to make them last. I did the same with the Blancos. I bought a pair of Acopa Legends and JB's, good shoes but not nearly as comfortable as the Grindstone. For some reason Acopa runs the stitching right up the back of the heel and it kills for some time until they get VERY broken in. |

The list of good shoes killed by 5.10 (even when still owned by the OGs), is now longer than their current total number of offerings |
|

I also have some Grandstones size 10. Used in 2 pitches. Too narrow for me. $120 shipped. DM for pics. |

That sucks. Us high-top lovers already had a limited selection, and now it's worse. The grandstone was probably the best high top for sport, IMO. I am guessing they didn't sell well because they retail for $180!! Kind of a high price point, although La Sportiva gets away with selling the TC Pro for a similar price. I bought mine during a big sale direct from Adidas for $108 shipped. Should have bought more pairs. Hopefully mine will last a long time. |

Damn, I can't find my size anywhere. I was planning on buying an upsized NIAD lace or as my second trad shoe. Maybe that's how Adidas is thinking of marketing it as its trad shoe anyways. There's also the UPlace, but with the shipping costs, those shoes end up being just as pricey. |

|
Thanks for the heads up just ordered a second pair. |

|
There is a new TC Pro on the market, I was debating between grandstones and TC pros, chose last one. |

Grandstones are a weird fit. Narrow across the toe with a medium/wide heel. It's like they are meant to fit feet that don't really taper. Great shoe in terms of performance. |

Georgy Gobozovwrote: After a long search the low-top BD Aspect ended up being my trad/jamming shoe of choice. A mid or high top version is exciting. They have proven very durable. They don't stretch at all. Toe box is harder and stiffer than any shoe I've ever had. They should feel comfortable out-of-the-box. 1 size larger than my street shoe was right for BD Aspects. |

If you're still looking for a pair REI has US: 7.5 -> 9, 10, 11.5 -> 12 Backcountry US: 6.5, 8 -> 9, 11 -> 12 |

Ugh, I beat the shit out of my Grandstones this summer -- by far the most comfortable, high-performing shoe I've worn yet, way, wayyy better than the TC Pros for me -- and had planned to wait until the winter to get another pair on sale ... now there doesn't seem to be a 10.5 for sale on the planet. :( Huge bummer. Also, I sing very, very high praise for the BD Aspect -- it's been my go-to cragging shoe for the last four years, I honestly can't imagine cragging in any other shoe at this point ... I own three pairs. But the Aspect and the Grandstone, in my opinion, are nothing alike. The Aspect is super, super stiff and edges like a champ, but it's hard to stuff the toe in cracks it's so stiff; the Grandstone kinda sucks at edging, it's way too soft, but jamming those shoes in cracks is magical. |

Just got my first size 10.5 ( had 11) few days ago. Just wow! These are perfect for sport. Called shops all over Cali and cross the borders, no one has 10.5, like no one. Would love to purchase a pair if someone wants to part with them. Please ask unparallel to make a Grandstone https://www.unparallelsports.com/contact/ |

Ethan Ayerwrote: I snagged the last one at REI. Been watching grandstone stock levels for months. FYI Found out / confirmed they're coming back, but might be a year or two. Can't say more, but no longer stocking up. So long live the greatest shoe I've ever owned. |

Update, I also heard that Grandstones are not dead. Its supply chain issue dur to the pandemic. I considered going back to the TC Pros out of desperation before I heard the optimistic news. |

I was originally told that the GS’s were a seasonal shoe, I asked if they would smell like pumpkin spice and she didn’t think that was funny. This was last year and she said they would be coming out in the winter only. |

I just saw that Adidas UK restocked them online. Hopefully that means the US will soon follow! |
