Looking for a jacket that’s gonna keep me warm while belaying in sub 0°F with a light mid layer and base layer underneath. As cheap as possible, just something I can trash. The only things that matter are warmth and price, let me know what you guys have found, thanks!

While researching belay jackets for purchase, I could never find a cheap one. If you join the AAC, you'll get 45% off Himali jackets through ExpertVoice. That makes this awesome belay parka $255. I think they have hoodies and mid-layers that would work well. That's the best deal I was able to find this season. Happy hunting.

might be on the border of a true "belay" jacket, but these are cheap and warm:

Ebay or various Facebook groups have good deals pop up. The cheapest retail super warm jacket is probably the simond makalu but I paid less for a barely used Eddie bauer peak xv on ebay.

The true cheapest jacket is going to be second hand so is always changing.

What size are you looking for?

I've got an old Holubar expedition parka (down filled) that you'll look like the Michelin man in.  Small.  Warm.  $100

Considering your criterias my vote would go to this one: decathlon.co.uk/p/men-s-mou…

Big Agnes belay jackets are super warm and past season colors/styles are usually on sale way discounted.

Without a doubt, it is the best article for these cases, it works very well for me.

I’ve got a BA Fire Tower, 11oz 850FP drydown, fully box baffled, I paid around $230 but I think it’s been cheaper. ~4oz heaver (burlier fabrics and a few more pockets and toggles) than a pati Grade VII, but much cheaper and about the same warmth. True to size as a parka (fits over midlayer, helmet, shell).

The Patagonia DAS was recently on Steep & Cheap for $160ish. It's double that now, but maybe set a price change alert?

2 words for the graduate. Goodwill.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
