My girlfriend and I are moving to Helena and I was hoping to find the Central Montana Climbing book but can't seem to find it anywhere....anyone have one that has moved out of the area?

Welcome to Helena! This book is pretty hard to find these days and when it’s available it costs way to much money. Also missing quite a few routes. Fortunately the second edition should be out early next year. Not sure the distribution details but I bet Stonetree and the Base Camp will both have copies in stock. If you sign up for the Helena Climbers Coalition emails they will probably blast the release since a portion of the profits are supporting local bolting and rebobolting. If you need your winter climbing fix before the book comes out, Stone Tree has some beta sheets for winter wall.

I guess I'll hold off on the book and thanks for the welcome! It has been a few years since I dedicated any serious time to climbing (damn whitewater kayaking) but it seems like Helena has lots of good climbing options and not a lot of whitewater so I'm excited to get back on some rock. Trying to get my body back into okay climbing shape this winter so spring isn't such a shock to the system. How is the climbing community in Helena?

If you go to the base camp and go to the ski shop in the back they have a couple of copies that you are more than welcome to take a look at/take pictures of until the new book comes out!

Climbing around here is usually quite. There’s lots of rock to spread folks out. People are friendly. Definitely more of a small town feel than Missoula or Bozeman.

Really looking forward to a more low key feel and a lot more rock. I think I migrated towards boating in Missoula because there is no shortage of whitewater all summer whereas the climbing felt a little limited and overcrowded at times. Really looking forward to getting out!
