2021/2022 Utah Ice Conditions

Eager to start hearing what's in and where- post any ice you've seen.

Reeds peak in the Uintas is in.  TOWKs is the “biggest it’s ever been”. 

Having serious Uintas FOMO rn...

Reids is still fantastic and mirror lake road is still open, get up while you can. I was up there on Friday

Provo was starting to freeze up, but it’s warm wind again today. 

Dirtcicle on 12/13, gently climbed up to the pillar to get a closer look and it was way to delicate for me, if you are good at dagger pulling it’s probably doable. 

Doubt it, however anything in Joes forming up? 

Apparently Center Field, Coats and likely Deadbolt are in decent shape...should improve with recent snow

Any suggestions for WI2-4 top rope(able) ice in the Uintas right now? I have pro to build an anchor if needed. If not Uintas, anywhere around Utah?

Your best bet will be the Apron in Provo Canyon.  Not sure how the conditions are, but the cold temps lately have likely been good for it.  Unless you have a snow machine or considerable drive to top rope then the Uintas aren't a good option.

Awesome thanks! For the Uintas, you are saying the approach is big? If so, I have 4x4 and was planning on bringing my touring kit for it, is this not enough?  

The road is closed quite a ways away from the good ice. A sled would be the only practical way of getting to Ried’s peak at this stage I would think.  

How about cobblerest? Anyone know if that’s still in? 

Stuff is coming in down in maple canyon. Most of the road ice seemed to be climbable albeit a little thin. I was nearing the top of a route Sunday when I got a nasty hand cramp. Luckily I had just put in a solid stubby I was able to bail off. I’m going down Thursday to try to reclaim it but if anyone happens across it before then I’d love to get it back.

On top of probably needing a sled, most of the climbs on Reids wouldn't be worth doing with the amount of snow covering the upper pitches at this point in the season.

Could you post pics after your time there on Thursday? Also, is the Ice there generally top rope accessible or only lead? (Been looking at routes on MP but kind of hard to tell from the limited pics)

Not a lot if any top rope at Maple my friend.

I will post some pics, nothing that I know of in maple is top ropable without leading first.
