Exactly! I live a couple hours away in Merced and will often roll through at 9 or 10am and see 20 sprinters still parked there. Why aren’t they climbing yet??

You don't understand why people would want use an entrance that's significantly closer to the valley floor than the other entrances and (almost) never gets shut down due to snow?

You don't understand the impulse to camp on the shoulder of the highway in your car when it's almost impossible to find legal camping inside the park and being able to arrive at night and rest before driving in in the morning is safer than waking up at 2am and driving through the night/early morning to get to the gates when they open and start your approach to all day climbs after already being awake for 6 hours?

There are many different types of vehicles, not just vans... that's not the problem. Simply too many people and using these spots is rapidly growing. There will be more and more regulations when accessing public lands in the future.

That's right I don't understand. I don't understand people who want to camp on the side of the highway. I'll never understand it.

I don't see too much changing unless the county puts a junior deputy down there on the night shift. 

Never minded a few vehicles down there, gettin' out early. The 30 sprinters lined up with picnic tables and tents was prolly a line that got crossed.

Hint: using a strawman response to the snow argument would be more effective if you'd said that it doesn't snow in September since that's the month we're in and when this is all happening.

Dare I say, there are hacks to staying in and around the Valley.  Parking a van on the side of the road is NOT one of them.  It's like an IQ test.  Figure it out.  Bottom line - you must be a ghost, unseen and leave no trace of passage.

And another note:  Tricked out Sprinter Van $120,000.   = 240 nights in a nice room at the Awahnee.  or 500 nights at the lodge. It's not the same but a comparison I make when I start thinking about van life.

What if I told you not all vans cost 120k+ and people can actually live in their vans full time outside of the park...

I mean it's a fair assessment to compare it to hotels but I think your numbers are pretty far off. 

Gonna have to agree with Connor on this one, the xterra I live in cost $500

I've had many long days of driving before and after climbing and can say I've always gone the extra couple of miles to find something off the road. Its not that hard to lay low unless maybe you are in a rig that doesn't do well on rough roads.
