Can anybody help me to identify this friction device? I am trying to use it as a rappel device and not sure how to use it. Im just getting into the sport.

Butt plug?

It’s a shock absorber. Thread a short rope through it and use it as a tether. If you fall the rope will slip and supposedly absorb shock. Diameter of rope and how many holes you use determine how much.

Probably a via ferrata device.

It looks like you could rap single strand off the oval in the middle. It will be a pain in the butt but should sortof work.

It is not a rappelling device it is a rigging plate. At least that is what it looks like but not the rigging plates I have seen in the past.

That if you are trying to use gear that you have no idea about you should probably find a mentor or hire a guide to teach you some basics.

Yup, it's a Stubai Klettersteigbremse (or AustriAlpin, they are nearly identical).

And not listen to Internet folks who tell you what something looks like (but they don't really know).  Google Kong Kisa for a similar rope brake device.

My favorite genre of fiction is crime mysteries. That’s why I love posts like this. It raises all those questions like you have at the start of a novel:

What is all that olive colored crap lying on the floor in the background? One thing looks like 7 or 8 mil rope coiled in bizarre configuration. One of the items is a pack but it has all kinds of incomprehensible rigging on it. What’s going on?  Where did all this stuff come from?  Was an army paratrooper murdered to get possession of it?  Is the OP really learning how to climb or is he secretly a tweeker trying to figure out how to sell gear on ebay?

Thanks for the entertainment.

OP is wearing a garmin watch of some sort. Likely a Fenix model. It's unlikely he's a tweaker, given that the watch would have been forfeit for cash a while back and the skin condition on his arms is too good to have already resorted to stealing climbing gear and slinging it for crys.

Paratrooper murder theory still hasn't been ruled out though. Could be a crime of passion. OP's sandals indicate a left-leaning political persuasion and the sling and tape repair on them indicates an anti-capitalist bent. It's possible the two clashed on politics and he murdered the paratrooper in a crime of passion. We'll need a warrant for more evidence though.

Such great observations, LOL!

Collectively, we all make a good crime-solving team!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
