Arrived last weekend and already I'm feeling anxious sitting inside getting settled and running errands on this nice weekend.
Finding new long-term climbing partners is hard, where is the platonic climbing partner Tinder? Probably more is more in this situation, so I'll give some ample info for who I am and what I am seeking, but keep in mind if your'e just looking for a sometimes partner I'm open for those too. Up for roped climbing pretty much anywhere drivable at the moment at nearly any grade that I find climbable. Probably only weekends for outdoors save for some holidays and sick days.. I have a regular job =o(
About me(climbing): About 8 years climbing, I enjoy pushing myself and have no issue falling, but I do see climbing as a thing for fun and try to keep perspective. I am not going to risk life or limb or partner's life or limb for a fleeting trivial accomplishment. Examples of this risk mitigation could be avoiding getting onto a busy climb where loose rock is common, not putting too much emphasis on sends or number of pitches. If the weather has been poor and conditions are dubious I'd probably prefer to change plans. I have never projected a rope climb, though with the right partner maybe I'd have more fun doing so. I exist somewhere in between casual and obsessed ( you probably would need to be in this area too as I think an obsessed would want too much out of me, and I'd want too much out of a casual ) I have rarely ever cancelled climbing plans (or any plans really) because I tend to only commit to things I am sure I am going to do, but I understand most people are not like this and do not mind cancellations for things that didn't require that much planning.
I enjoy sport climbing up to about 5.12a, with the 5.10-5.11c range being most fun. Trad 1-4 pitches, up to 5.10c, most fun in the 5.8-5.10a range ( less some of those old 5.9+ where the + is many grades ). Not much of an issue working up to about 5.11, but above that is just harder than I like to lead atm and I have barely touched anything out here, so who knows what will stump me as I get used to it! I haven't done much above 4 pitches in trad and would like to find someone I can build a rapport with to get more efficient/faster so that longer routes are less stressful.
I'm up for trips to further away destinations as my vacation will allow ( and maybe one day soon remote work / retirement will allow ), and I'd like to Improve skills like crack, off-width, longer multi-pitch. Definitely up for regular long drives, but probably not every weekend.
about me(not climbing): late 30s, male, veganish. I've had many hobbies and played many sports over the years, but am trying to cut down to just a few these days, so I can focus on them more. Outside of work and climbing, hoping to keep playing tennis(good), piano(bad), some arts(... probably bad).
About you: Mostly we are on the same page for risk tolerance, expectations, communication. I don't really care about your age or gender. You can confidently lead at some grade for sport/trad and enjoy improving ( or you're just already great at everything and would like a pet! )
Please PM if you are seeking or know someone who is.
Other than the 22nd I have no hard scheduled weekend plans at the moment.
