Guys, no one gives a flying *&%$ as to whether or not you believe this is a true story or not. Get over yourself a little. |

Brandon Fwrote: Brandon, you've taken this fable too far. When you get home, no TV for you, on top of your two weeks of detention. Enough is enough. Don't even think about asking for dessert. |

Sinropa, good on you for the gift basket and admitting you were wrong. Cheers! Brandon has an awesome attitude that a lot of you could learn something from. |

Idk I've been in the ER before and it gets pretty boring, so aside from sleep I was on the internet a lot too. Everyone wants this to be false because it's terrifying and hurts to imagine but best of luck and well wishes, hope you can recover as fully as possible. I'd be furious about the hazard. |

As soon as he mentioned reporting to ANAC, the gig was up. |

I climb at this gym a lot and love it. I have a bunch of friends and family who work at the local hospitals. I asked around and one of them was there when he came in. Sad to say it's real. Hope you heal fast man. Climbing is a very, very dangerous sport. Sometimes I think it's partly the danger that makes it so fun. If you climb long enough you or your close friends will get hurt or worse. We're all human, and we make mistakes. I was at Index when this happened, getting my usual spanking. I need to take up golfing |

T Legowrote: Lol - almost guaranteed to be a shitshow. The gym is under no obligation to even acknowledge they have a policy much less help someone file a claim against it - for starters. Management at the gym would be recklessly naïve to basically admit fault by providing any sort of assistance. It pretty much requires a lawsuit to get that ball rolling. Automobile is very, very different. OP has it right, IMO - you have a job and insurance - nice work - now put all your attention into healing. |

Not sure if real or not, but it’s no laughing matter. Impalement happens. A good friend was impaled by an underwater tree branch as he lowered himself into the water from a ski boat at Chatfield Reservoir. Went in an inch in front of where this pvc post supposedly went in. Continued through his abdomen and poked him in the lungs. Didn’t really believe until I went to the hospital. An actor’s relative took a ski up the rear bitd, according to my friend who knew the family. Didn’t really believe that one either but who knows… |

but... goes on and on. Judge not impressed, case dismissed. |

Holy shit. Hope you heal up quickly as possible and are able to get back to climbing and normal every day living. I have no doubt that a gym would use PVC for this purpose, but I also don't understand why they wouldn't just go with a high-vis pylon as I've seen at other gyms. But, I also don't know how someone wouldn't see a PVC pole before jumping on a climb. I guess it is possible that the route-setters put the post there in the 30 sec the OP was climbing up, but seem unlikely. Let this post be a reminder to folks to always scope your landing zone before you are forced to use it. As mentioned above, too, impalements are real and can be very serious. I worked with a ski instructor that fell on a broken branch in the snow, and didn't realize it had traveled through his butt muscles and punctured his lower intestine until days later when he got seriously ill from the resulting infection in his abdomen. I think about this scenario a lot when traveling in the woods or any other time there could be something hiding that can stab me in some way. |

this is the fentanyl of Mountain Project threads. It should have been administered to me by a competent professional. I should never have been allowed to just...open the thread |

Brandon Fwrote: Dude you are legend! No one but you would ever post this. Anyone I know would try their best to sweep this under the rug but you are owning it. Respect! They will carve your face in Mount MP right next to Kyle Flatiron Ranger and Devin the Divine! I just hope you take personal responsibility for your mistakes. If you try to sue like some of the milquetoast crowd is suggesting all cred is lost. One question: what's the current logistics for going #2 looking like for you? Surgical bypass/detour? Early off ramp? |

PNW Chosswrote: Not to say the scenario isnt absolutely ridiculous but if its true I call double fault and the gym pays half. |

This account and the subsequent impalement stories are horrifying. |

The question remains.... was the auto belay route being climbed, without using the autobelay, closed down, forcing it to be bouldered, or was it open for climbing and the setters just put their gear out too close to the edge of open routes? Never heard of anyone climbing an auto belay route as a boulder before. |
