And here I thought I was bold telling the story of how I shat myself walking home from the pub. |
|

Jeezus Brandon...that sounds horrific. Hope you heal up ok. |

Yeah - definitely something that’s been on my list of worst nightmares - surreal to actually see it happen to someone. I’ve got a few bucks for your GoFundMe, should one get created. |

dang man that sucks!! how in the fuck does that even happen I've seen guys come back from explosive and burn injuries, my brother included. one freak accident, guy covered two kids as another boat hit them from the side, net result, the offending boat landed on his lumbar spine and blew apart his vertebrae, with an emergent cauda equina syndrome. major post-surg infection, sepsis; survived all that, and He's walking again, although assisted, still unbelievable on his recovery. kids made it unharmed, they'd be dead. heal well bro. Ask for pain meds early and often while you can. maybe give the ANAM a write up on this one. Get a gofundme setup, i'll toss in for a good bottle of scotch, when you can enjoy. |

A V wrote: I personally feel like in this situation the poor decision making from both parties cancels out as far as blame goes. No the gym should not have been using poles or setting near an active autobelay. No the climber shouldn't have been climbing near an active setting area, should have clipped in, and shouldn't have just yeeted himself off from 15ft up. A shitty situation all around, but I think its damn near impossible to pin blame on either side. Definitely the wildest gym injury I've heard of. Hope you heal up quick. |

A V wrote: I nawyasayn for sure. Honestly just a slow day at work and this is the most interesting thing I've seen on here in a while. Theoretical scenario: same situation entirely but no pole; he hits the deck at an odd angle and breaks a leg/fucks up his back/etc. Is it still the gyms fault? I mean they didn't specifically pad the floor there in a way to not create serious injury scenarios. This whole thing is awful, but I think the whole butthole factor really pulls us away from the mistakes of both parties. |

This post violated Guideline #1 and has been removed.

A V wrote: Unless someone walked up and put that pole there while home slice was 15 feet up, he was climbing close to a closed area, as in, he should have seen the pole before he started the route. That’s why the poles are there. Well it’s been a while since I’ve got my post limit, AV- the set up was there when he walked up and didn’t clip into the auto belay. A jury would agree that the climber was using the facilities incorrectly, including jumping off a wall from 15 feet. AV- Lets its. The gym lets its clientele… It has nothing to do with being a patriot, it’s called self accountability and common sense. Stop being so fanatical |

All those people that called this a troll should feel like this dudes ass. |

Hey nurse maybe hold on to this guys phone for a bit? not sure he's going to want this all out there when the Dilaudid wears off This whole thing seems like a HIPAA violation... |
|

Why don't I see this story on CNN? |

This is terrifying. Thanks for the PSA. Reminds me of the recall on dive sticks for pools in the early 2000s. I was a little kid and forever afraid to jump into pools after that. |

SinRopa wrote: Are there not that many bouldering areas in your gym? The Spot in Boulder has 17-ft boulders and almost every World Cup Bouldering Comp has climbers jumping from 15-ft (or more) heights regularly. I understand this is a route but if the floors are springy enough why not jump off from 15-ft if you’re ok with it? I don’t see it that often by the ropes but that’s mainly because the gyms near me have a “No Bouldering Above the 1st Bolt” policy for people that decide to traverse or boulder in the route area vs the bouldering area. |

A V wrote: Brandon is my brother and I completely agree. I called the gym to have a civil discussion with them about it but they wouldn’t tell me much, which is understandable. |

Ryanb.wrote: Agree with the HIPAA violation. I'm a nurse who has worked in administration and closely with HR for many years. Jeff, trust me, your hospital has a policy forbidding what you have done in this thread. Please, for your sake, delete those posts. Anyone who quoted it please take it down too so Jeff doesn't lose his job. (The fact that that post was even made makes me suspect this is a troll as HIPAA compliance training is a yearly requirement and all nurses should know this.) |

Still calling troll...why are so many buying this BS? |

I'm gonna go ahead and say Brandon is probably cool with Jeff's post, essentially invalidating a HIPAA claim. And if not, deleting the posts won't matter anyway...it's out there. |
