GitHub reverses DMCA takedown |

....github reverses but not a court of law? Essentially, a bot took data from MP and dumped it into a reddit thread. The code for this was posted on GitHub? MPs data was valuable beforehand but not now cause MP tried to keep the bot from scraping data? Everyone should applaud the bot for scraping up all their data to improve a user experience on reddit? Not sure where I stand on the fair use side but seems like a stretch to be pissed at MP for trying to protect their resource. And a rich move to post about it, and attack them, here. BTW: As has been pointed out in the last thread, no 3rd party asked users for permission to see their contributions sent to reddit or elsewhere. |

Actually you can thank the people who donated the route data, for that. Oh and while you're heaping blame you can blame each and every pro climber that ever existed, too. |

Never worked for a VC startup. Started my own stuff, and did just finish a job with a VC. Would not call all VC stuff trash but see plenty. Like Facebook. What is your point? The idea that reddit should profit at the expense of MP is interesting. That was where the data was originally headed per my understanding. You know better? Expand. Perhaps the overcrowding would be even worse if MP's user data is splashed all over the world on other sites. Either way, climbing is a great sport and more people should enjoy it. How that relates to the Fair Use policy in question is open to debate. As much as I love the IFF, I don't roll over for 'em. But, really, blame the internet's creators (feds) not MP, VCs, Pros, Facebook, reddit, instagram, blogs, Apple, the Googler, Intel, and everything else on the tube for EVERYTHING being more broadly exposed including all the secret nude beaches. Can't put the genie back, here to stay. The idea of sharing information is as old as man. Guide books going virtual is as natural as shopping going virtual. I can escape the crowds. Since when did fun and profit become a bad thing? Thank God for all the VC backed, and crowd-sourced, climbing stuff. But, you know, I understand your feelings. Common. I can relate. |
