Turkey season opens here tomorrow! I am freakin stoked. My shoulder a little less so after testing some 3.5" 12 gauge shells

Shoot a bow instead. Your shoulder won’t hurt from the recoil. ;)

Good luck hunting!

Thank you fellas I'll take all the luck I can get. Not gonna shoot a bow at turkeys not on that level yet

I don't get even close to understanding the whole shotgun vs turkey thing.. I know its the rules but seems like stupid rules.  If i want to eat a turkey it sure seems to me the best way to accomplish that would be with a .22lr.

So have you ever hunted turkey?

around here its  all about getting one with a big beard  for a trophy and the rules say you have to call them in to shotgun range. the people  who actually eat them just use a .22 and pop them out in the field. we have thousands.

So many turkeys in the NE you could use a slingshot or a stick.

Apparently you can  knock them off the  tree  branch with a stick when they are sleeping.

Its kinda ironic in the hunting/fishing world that the "sporting" folks who usually kill the most dont actually need it eh?

It’s still illegal to hunt that way in many states.

Kinda ironic that we don't buy red meat from a grocery store because of the two bucks I put in the freezer. Pretty sure the meat bought there isn't as good or as good for us to eat. Does this mean I need it? Does is make you a dbag for making dbag comments?

My entire point is that the rules of turkey hunting are all about making killing the turkey difficult and  sporting as though killing an animal should be sport.  I have more respect for the person who illegaly  pops a turkey with a .22lr or knocks a sleeping one out of a tree to feed their family than I do with the sporting hunter who calls one into shotgun range to to blast it and mount the beard as a trophy.

Touched a nerve I see. Just making a point and not aimed at you, just the "sporting" morons who live to shoot and kill.

Washington State is allowing 22lr for turkeys this fall so people can hunt other small game at the same time. California allows air rifles 20 caliber or larger. The main reason I was given for no rifles was safety,  that hunting camo'd up and calling would tempt longer shots by people not being sure what they see and those projectile would be deadlier at distance. I suppose they limit shot size for that reason too. #4 Buckshot could be great for turkey if allowed.

Where turkeys have been hunted, they are tougher to call in close. The ones in my yard I could probably get with something thrown like a rock or spear. Even had one tangled in the outside bamboo shade cord the I had to cut free. Where I am allowed to hunt them, at best I can only get them to come in to about 35 or 40 yards. With practice that is arrow range. So far only feathers, but I blame the deflection by the blade of bunch grass in front.

I’ve never known a hunter to not use what they kill.

I used to know an asshole that'd go to Africa every year and just blast away. He justified it by saying the locals knew where the carcasses were and could harvest. The fucker just had a love of killing.
