Bouldering at Gore mountain? - Adirondacks

I've visited Gore a few times for snowboarding and whenever I go there I've seen a lot of amazing looking boulders. Does anyone know if there are any developed boulders here or a guidebook covering them? Thanks so much. |

Do they not allow bouldering but do allow sport climbing? Also which guidebook has some sport routes for Gore? Thanks everyone for your responses |

Felix Griffinwrote: the book doesn’t differentiate between sport and bouldering. it states that you should ‘stay away from maintenance operations’ but it isn’t clear if summer recreation is forbidden. |

Thanks so much for the updates Petzl logic, and I'll be sure to check out the book |

When I was doing all of my recon for the Adirondack Park Bouldering Guidebook back in 2014/2015, the staff would not let me access the boulders along their ski trails that had been documented before in the original print of Adirondack Rock. Because of this access conflict, I did not include any of the Gore Mountain bouldering in my publication. It sucks being denied access to Adirondack climbing!!! |

Climbing on Gore Mtn is not allowed, despite great rock and historical routes. It took years for them to come back with a definitive “no”, which is why it’s included in ADKROCK. It could be challenged, but I thought there were bigger issues, like High Peaks parking, etc. Plus, there is so much other climbing to be had. It’s sad to ski past all those undeveloped cliffs in the glades :-( Check out Chatiemac, which is near Gore and totally legit, and home to some of the best hard climbs in the park. |

i don’t see how a ski lease of public land to a quasi public agency could prevent off season use. especially, as you point out, things in the woods. it’s almost the insurance policy version of backcountry going after other brands that used backcountry in their name to sell stuff like coffee. it’s an odd world we’ve created here and i hope that someone at gore would reconsider this policy for off season use. |

Thanks everyone for your responses, and it's sad to hear that climbing isn't allowed there with all that potential. Well, I guess there are plenty of other great bouldering locations in the North East which I can explore. It does seem wrong because of the fact it's publicly operated land, and I would be going there out of Season. Hopefully it'll change back to being allowed. |

On the back side of Gore we developed Barton, better rock and good access. Check it out. |
