Trango Tower Extreme or G5. Wear 10.5 regular shoes, 11.5-12 in La Sportiva. Own 45.5 Olympus Mons Evo and 44 Omega GTX, so probably 45/45.5.

G5 is on sale 50% off at $375 straight from LS, FYI. Still would prefer used. G5 or Trango Tower Extreme should be warm enough for positive, and some brief negative (like summit) single-digit temps. |

Some feedback on the TTE's. They are awesome. Just got a set myself. Have to go one half size bigger to get the same fit as a Nepal, Batura or G5. Then they're identical fit-wise. They climb extremely well, walk nicely. Very waterproof. I walked through a ton of slush yesterday crossing Chapel Pond and my feet were bone dry. They are definitely temperature limited if you're having to stand on belay for a while. I would say they're good for anything 25 F and up. Below that, if you're standing on a ledge for a while, the cold starts to creep in. Only other thing I noticed is the soles transmit cold from my crampons. Not an issue while moving or in warmer ice climbing temps. It only stands out compared to the Batura 2.0's and G5's that seem to be almost immune to that. |

Patrick Careywrote: Thanks, Patrick. That’s extremely helpful. Sucks that I missed those $150 open boxes. As far as winter summits go (e.g., CA/CO/WY), would the TTEs be okay for a 0° summit if I’m at that low 20s mark otherwise? They really look like the perfect mixed use boot. I’ve got the TXS GTX, which is a badass hiking boot, but something like Whitney or Elbert in the winter definitely needs to have some more warmth Any idea how low the G5s feel warm? I assume the TTEs walk better, but that clearance pricing is tempting. |

Another plus for the TTE, I love them. But my toes get a little cold down in the single digits when belaying. Just added some Superfeets in too so hopfeully those help a little. But if you're moving and not stopping a lot I have used them in the negatives and been fine. |

As long as you're moving a little, a 0 degree summit would be fine with the TTE's. I'd say they're good down to 20 for general climbing/belaying duty and a bit below zero if you're moving. My wife has the G5's and she now never gets cold feet. We climb down to single digits all the time. She used to have problems with cold feet while belaying with her Nepal's. Not anymore. The honeycomb shank introduced on the Batura 2.0's and refined (slightly I'm guessing) on the G5's is awesome. If you get G5's, just make sure they're the minorly updated version with the rubber patch over the Boa. That prevents it from wearing through the gaiter. |

Patrick Careywrote: Awesome man, I appreciate the advice. Has your wife said anything about being able (or not able) to walk in her G5’s? I wish I could go try them on, but places nashville don’t stock stuff like that. |

Daniel Lewiswrote: Just asked her. She said they're very comfortable for walking. She's not shy about doing long approaches in them. She said they are quite a bit more walkable than her previous Nepal's. I climb primarily in Batura 2.0's, which are similar to the G5's and they are incredibly good for long approaches. |
