Taken from the NPS website: "While the wilderness (including big wall climbing) is open, overnight stays in wilderness (including on big walls) is prohibited." Have people still been climbing on el cap? Potentially gonna drive from Bozeman to the Valley in the next few days and trying to gage what routes we could get on... |

El Cap isn't closed, but you would have to be rather fast to get up and down in the time limit provided by NPS, from 8 am to 5 pm. No exceptions are granted as far as I'm aware. |

I just called and spoke with a ranger because I had this same question. She didn’t give a clear answer and it sounds like it would depend on which law enforcement officers were around but it did sound like it was possible you could get ticketed if in the park after 5. Though I’m not certain how that would work, since residents are able to be in the park after 5 so I’m not sure what would lead them to pull you over. Either way, I’ll make sure to be out by 5 pm because better safe than sorry. |

I've been in the park till about 5:20, but I was in the car on my way out at 5. I passed a few rangers as well. I think it's just stationary cars if any. Does anyone know if they are actively turning you away at the gate if you arrive before 8? |

Had a friend wait at the gate at 7:30AM. He got to the gate on 120 at 5:25 and got a lecturing to by a pissy ranger. The ranger also informed him that the local ICUs are at capacity and he should think twice about leaving home since he is not local and there is a statewide order. She didn't say what the penalty was. |
