Hexes that are made today (wild country or DMM come to mind) don't have holes besides the ones for the sling. I suppose that's because they did the math or testing and found that a thin-walled but solid hex weighs less for the same strength rating as a thicker but drilled-out one.

Agree - the ones in the pic on the previous page look more old school, but I really can't tell.
