Dry lake bed is nuts and there is enough RV’s that I don’t think it’s going to quiet down around Monday.

Any recommendations that an overloaded station wagon could get to?

Your options are pretty limited especially if you want free legal camping close to the park, I'd try to grab a spot some time early in the morning Sunday or Monday hoping someone is taking off.  Hidden valley and Belle are the only fcfs spots in the park but with a little luck you might find someone who is heading out (you're gonna have to ask at every site do not assume they are staying, or make friends and split a site), might be able to do the same at hippcamp on the way into dry lake but I'm not sure how that works (check the web or ask someone staying there), and you can always see if Joshua tree lake has open spots tho even they are recommending reservations but it might get you off the lake bed for the holiday weekend if that's what your after, good luck!

Lots of free roads to park on.

Check with Joshua Tree Lakes Campground, they may have availability.

https://www.joshuatreelake.com/

Take Sunfair Road north from (Hwy) 62 for 5.2 miles. The Joshua Tree
Lake Entrance (2601 Sunfair Road) will be on the right hand side.

Yeah, free if you like replacing windshields.   Ultra bad advice.  Residents around the park are pretty fucking tired of van dickheads parking on their property or roads.  They will come and roust you, and at this point it will not be a pleasant encounter.  Get a site, go to blm, or go home.

Locals only?

Thanks for the beta,

The road won’t work Banned.

Yeah,  I’ve looked at the maps. I’m crowd sourcing because.  1. Not all roads a car can realistically make it down daily. 2. I want cell service, good cell service.

The Pit has reopened I hear.

No (redacted).  Private property in most cases.  And the Pit is not open.  That too is private property.  Crawl back in your troll hole.

There are many public streets to park on for some shut-eye.

And the pit has been used for many years (off and on) by people who don't own it.

Why the hostility for the man trying to find a place to post up? If you were a nice guy you would offer your driveway. I would

Russ is right, your advice is not good. Sleeping on local streets isn’t a safe, responsible, or respectful option. There are a lot of locals who are much less nice than Russ.

I have let folks sleep in my driveway on occasion, but I’m not inclined to offer that to every MP user. Todd Gordon has some Airbnb campsites at his place that have good cell service.
