Hi Ian,

Yes, the square tubing is mild steel and might get a little surface rust on it. If you are worried about ti, you can sand it down and throw a little wax on it or spray it with clear coat.  I haven't bothered with mine since these things get dinged up in the use anyway.

I've got everyone who has responded on a list, we are starting in on a round of 20 more. Should be one or two up for grabs still.

Casey

I would buy two of these, cleatis.  And happy to put a deposit down if you'd like to help with your initial outlay expenses.

Hi Everyone,

Its time for another round of YABRs! Mountain Project member Peter Thomas has volunteered to help me with assembly and shipping. I'd love to see the development and manufacture of these tools become a community effort and this is a good first step. Price is going up slightly ($275) as I have been losing a bit of money on these and if this project is to be sustainable it should break even or even be able to pay for the beer we are drinking while putting them together. (International orders may require a. bit more $)

I have a list of 13 people who have expressed interest since the last round. Please let me know soon if you want on this list so that I can decide whether to make 15 or 20.

cheers,

casey

Hi, i'm interested.

I'll buy 1 or 2, depending on availability. Let me know if you need a deposit.

Thanks.

I shipped a big box of machined parts off to Peter, who is going to do the assembly and shipping on this round (20 units).  We have a list of 23 or so people that have expressed interest since the last round, Peter will be in touch soon.

This batch of YABRs is complete, and everyone on the interest list has been contacted. I have not heard back from several folks. If you previously indicated wanting one, but haven't been in touch with me, please send me a message. If you would like to be added to the list, let me know and I will follow up if there are any left, or for the next batch.

I'm also putting together a bunch of spinner tools (shown in the second photo) if anyone needs one of those.

Thanks,

Peter

Just a note to say that Peter has been very responsive, helpful and professional to deal with while buying one of the YABRs from this recent batch!

Hey Peter, I will definitely take one of the SDS spinner bits.  I currently use a cordless impact wrench with a 9/16” deep socket to spin, so I’ll have one less tool to pack, awesome!  Thanks, Kent

Hi Kent (and everyone), the ASCA has plenty of spinner tools, just in case anyone needs one. Greg German makes them for us (thanks Greg!). They are 1/2-20 threaded, so they screw onto a YABR or a Doodad, but not the Hurley Jr.'s that the Access Fund sometimes has available.

For which size bolts will this tool work? It seems pretty obvious that it pulls 3/8". Does it work on 1/2" as well? Thanks in advance.

It comes ready to pull 3/8, you can easily swap the coupler nut out for 1/2” (or metric) bolts. the shaft is threaded 1/2x20 and bolts 1/2x 13 so you’ll need to get an adapter like this one https://www.mcmaster.com/91072A252/

Thanks Peter. I signed up for one. It would be great if that adapter were included with the tool, or if it were an option to pay extra for it so individuals don't have to source it themselves. I'm assuming it could be easily sourced by the original maker along with the base tool's constituent components. Just a thought. Thanks to you and cleatis for all the work that went into this!

I’d like to put an order in for one on the next round.

Great quality and very feedback intuitive.

If the bolt is not scored enough you feel the resistant torque. Otherwise it pull like if it was in butter.

i'm wondering if there is a way to create an attachment for the yabr that will allow removal of 5/16 buttonheads?

something like a ball joint remover?

hmmm... not following that suggestion?  i'm thinking of something that attaches to the yabr and the hanger of a 5/16 buttonhead and allows removal.

I’ve thought about this too, for both the ball screw and Hurley Jr. style pullers. I don’t come across many button heads, and when I do, use a funkness and/or tuning fork. Seems like a reducing adapter for the tube with a clevis rod end for the ball screw would work, but may be a little cumbersome.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
