Ice and alpine partners/mentors Jan-Feb

Looking for consistent ice climbing partners/mentors in the front range area. Ready to carry the gear and provide good belays. I've only led a few pitches of ice so far but hoping to get a lot of mileage while staying in Ouray for 10 days at the beginning of January and then take those skills into the real world. I'm competent on alpine rock and got the ice gear. I'm Avy 1 certified but have very little experience negotiating avy terrain outside class. I'm a grad student in Boulder, so will have availability most weekends and occasional weekdays.

Edit: gear-wise, I have boots, pons, tools, a light set of screws, dry ropes.

Hey I'm looking to start and learn ice climbing this year. I have alpine climbing and ice gear ready for the season. Looking for partners to learn from and happy to carry gear and belay anything as well. Living in Boulder and free on weekends. Would love a small group to explore the front range with this winter.

Gear: boots, crampons, tools, 3 screws, alpine draws, and 50m dry rope.

I would be happy to take others out.  I do ask that you have boots, crampons and tools. There are times when we have to drive a bit, so am happy if others can drive as a trade off.  I have all gear that we would need for toprope, lead and multi pitch.

Hey Bharath.

I’m in a similar boat. I did a few guided ice courses last season and I’m hoping to develop my skills more and work towards leading some pitches this winter. Although I can’t offer much mentorship, Im also am in the Boulder area and would be happy find a partner or a group that is interested in learning together. I have gear and am free on weekends. PM me if you want to try to plan something this winter.

Mitch,  I live in Boulder as well.  I am sure we can get a group together to do some climbing.

Awesome. Sounds good Dale. Would love to get out. Let’s get in touch when more ice routes start coming in (hopefully soon)

Hey all, I'm also local to Boulder and looking to get out on some ice.  Have crampons, boots, tools, couple screws, but soft on experience. Hit me up if you have room for another.

I have time to drive out for a hike and checkout conditions this week if anyone has a suggestion of where to start. Not sure if anything will still be around by the weekend with it warming up again.

I'm happy to head anywhere within a 1-2 hour drive of Boulder. I can go on upcoming Saturday. If anywhere is closer (1 hour drive of Boulder), I can go during the week as well. Any recommendations of where to check?

Hmm...are you looking to just drive or plan to hike some as well?  Probably not much in the way of a drive-by unless you head up towards Lincoln or Officers Gulch, but that is 2 hours one way.  You can get to the park in an hour, but I would stay clear of the area as not to get in the way of the fire crews and access roads.

hey guys,

Dont know if im too late to the party! Im also looking to get out more on ice and in the alpine this summer. Im a FOCO native but would not mind driving too meet up in the park or boudler canyon if a group is going out. I have all the needed gear and way more stoke than I know what to do with.

Hi Austin.

Dale was nice enough to put this page together for us: https://www.facebook.com/groups/350352772739742

We're all just waiting for conditions to come in for now.

I’m going to be based in Buena Vista this winter, January through April, and would love to have a consistent ice climbing partner/s.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
