Poached draws in flatirons

Spare me your opinions.

Someone poached our draws from the slab and I’d like them back.

If you have them let me know.

If I were to give you my opinion, I'd say...the same thing everyone else would say. 

Hey BB - First off, I have no idea about your draws. Were your draws on the entire route? If so, I don't understand the mentality of claiming draws that are someones project. There are places where its more accepted to leave your draws, for example like Rifle, but I don't understand claiming draws that are not obvious bail gear. Clip the draws and move on! Sheesh....wears me out! I hope you get your draws back btw.

Sucks it happened but really. They didn't take them down just to find who put them up. Live and learn. 

The one thing the poacher was waiting for to return them was a sanctimonious spare me post.

Local ethic in the Flatirons is not to leave draws, per agreement with the land manager. People often take down draws and leave them at Neptune or a climbing gym with a note about the local agreement. But the OP and his friends already know about it and don't care. OP has pretty much said that if they get the draws back, they'll hang them again. In which case, someone would take them again. Person who took draws is just saving everyone time and hassle by not returning them. 

What L said. Even though the routes there are the type that would be nice to fix (overhanging and gym like), it's against the rules.

It's also an extremely popular area with a ton of climbers strong enough to remove them who do know and care about the rules.

They wouldn't last one day there unless that day was during a blizzard.

That is the public version. Reality is a bit more grey & comes down to climbers being second class citizens to hikers (at least we aren't the bottom feeders, aka mountain bikers).

So behave accordingly when the crag is close to a hiking trail (especially at a crag where warming up hanging draws is still a relatively minor annoyance). Of course, if you aren't local, a good rule of thumb is not to leave draws at a crag w/ no other project/fixed draws.

There's no winning an argument on the internet. But since you mentioned the OSMP rule, I'd like to point out as a (hopefully voting) Boulder resident you have actual influence over the said rule than an user from a neighboring town.

If its privet.. best to follow the rules or just don’t go there at all. I have seen this play out at other crags. The climbers don’t win. If the land managers set simple rules then you should follow them otherwise you risk it for everyone, which is selfish and lame. Also the straw man argument of “lots of other people do it” wont help preserve access.

I live 20 min from Chataqua, have climbed in the flatirons for fifteen years, and have paid to use the park. Hope that’s ok with you, Mr(s) Anonymous.

"If you don't live in Boulder, shut your mouth" is never going to be a winning argument among climbers.

Public land is for everyone. Don't be such an elitist. 

As a boulder resident, I'm 95% sure Big Bubba is a boulder resident (but idk where the line gets drawn). Sorry about your draws; think we can pull a tensleep and just use master locks as the top biner on draws?

The official policy of OSMP is no fixed draws. The Flatirons Climbing Council is working with OSMP on designating certain areas for fixed draws. Please don't leave your draws up on routes right now.

The land isn't Public Land, there is no such thing. It belongs tothe City of Boulder, and they could very easily restrict access to anyone they want to.

Osmp is a public entity, and is public land... owned by the town, which is a public entity. I get what your saying that the osmp is managed and they make rules, but it is in fact public land.
