Scarpa Ribelle Tech out of the box impressions

The nose and wrapping around to the inside is climbing rubber, nice and sticky but very thin. I'm guessing by x-alpines you mean salomon x-alps, which don't have the same rubber compound. I have both and the Ribelles are more of a true mountaineering boot, very stiff edge, and even climb a bit of ice. While the x-alps are a stiff running shoe with a non waterproof gaiter.

My mountaineering style is unlike many others, very light and quick. That said, I use the xa alpine (running shoe version) often, skip over the x-alps, and use the ribelles regularly. The xalps have fallen to being a hiking boot/walking around before ski touring.

The Ribelle Tech is wider at the ball of the foot than the Rebel Ultra. I wear a 46 in the Ultra and a 45 or 45.5 in the Ribelle Tech. I think I’ll stay at 45.

The Ribelles flex significantly more than any ice boot I’ve used.

The Ribelle is a very very low top with virtually no ankle support. One set of lace eyelets are above my ankle, and they basically serve to just snug the neoprene-like gaiter around my ankle.

The Grivel G20 does work with the C2N Bail, though it’s a tight fit. This makes them work with the Ribelle. I actually have zero play at the toe of the Ribelle+C2N bail versus my Rebel Ultra+Wire bail that does wiggle ever so slightly. I seriously might use the C2N bail on boots with toe welts. Snuggest toe I’ve seen

A single size 46 Rebel Ultra weighs 925 grams. A single size 45 Ribelle Tech weighs 639 grams.

First impression out of the box: It’s a stiff insulated high top trail running shoe with a heel welt. My house backs up to some big easy gullies that will be my primary use for these.

To follow up: have you used this toe bail with boots that have welts? I have been impressed with how tight newmatic style binding systems work with certain boots. Curious how that went for you. Thanks

I prefer the C2N bail to the stock wire toe bails on the G20 mounted to the Rebel Ultra. The C2N is more secure

I’m hoping to do a few of those easy gullies in your backyard this winter.

The directions I wrote up here are as good as it gets for Crescent, Browns, and LWB:

Oh I have read them! Hoping to do the LWB scramble this weekend so I can learn my way around before it’s all covered in snow.

Do it tomorrow. It’ll be fun. The rain helps keep it clean

Hey folks.  I'm having trouble keeping all these years and models straight.  Below are some screenshots of the latest versions and notes, as I understand them.  I might have some details wrong--please correct if necessary.  I'm based in Europe--I don't know exactly what is/isn't available in the US or UK.  They're interesting boots....I don't know exactly how I might use them....but I'm intrigued!  La Sportiva must be working on something to compete....interesting times.

Salomon S/Lab XA Alpine 2

Light, flexible, little insulation, single zipper, laces, no heel welt.

Salomon S/Lab X-Alpine Modular

A little heavier, a little stiffer, more insulation, double zipper (one on each side) velcro strap and laces, heel welt

Scarpa Ribelle S HD

Light, flexible, little insulation, covered laces, heel welt.

Scarpa Ribelle TECH HD 2.0

A little heavier, a little stiffer, a little more insulation, no covered laces, heel welt

hey, i just got this bail, to try on my g22s...wow, it’s wayyyy narrower than the stock bail, and the entire front part of the crampon. did you have a hell of a time getting this on??

It was a tight fit with the G20, but I am strong

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
