Tuolumne air quality

Is 120 even open? Was considering heading out from the Bay Area tuesday night. Thoughts on current conditions? |

I left Tuolumne last night. 120 was open westbound the entire length, but a section of eastbound near Groveland was closed. Air quality yesterday (8/22) around Groveland and Big Oak Flat was awful - the smoke looked like fog on the road - but it was totally clear up at Tenaya Lake. |

Found this today... https://www.airnow.gov/?city=Tuolumne%20Meadows&state=CA&country=USA I'll be looking for first-hand accounts in a couple weeks. I have a backpack and some climbing planned. |

I’ve been up there the last couple days. Air quality is a bit variable but generally ok till 2pm or so and then it’s starts to get worse. It hasn’t been awful and it feels reasonable to be climbing. |

my eyes and lungs were definitely burning up there this weekend. |

There is no air quality sensor in Tuolumne, but there is one in the valley and on the west and east ends of Tioga road. It's useful to check the webcams to get a sense of the high country. This map is good for showing both air sensors and smoke drift: |

I just got back from Tuolumne. Yes the road is open. The air quality was generally pretty good. It is hazy and sometimes you can smell the smoke. I never thought to myself "damn, this air quality is shite". Have fun. |
