Chipping? At Black Hole in Morrison, CO

Went to the black hole today and noticed some broken holds on Breshear’s Crack and the crux of Helicopter. Seems intentional. (Could be from water seeping?) I am super bummed regardless :( 

That looks like vandalism. I’ve been going there on and off for 30 years and haven’t seen scars like that before.

yaaa i agree man. it doesn't make the climbs any easier just sharp and awkward. also its at the crux of both climbs. very strange. it did rain a bit the day or two before, but ive never heard of the sandstone at Morrison breaking after a rain shower. especially in the black hole.   

Dakota sandstone is tough stuff.  Plenty of 100 year old and older houses in Denver have lintels and thresholds made out of the stuff and they are holding up just fine.

The right handhold to start Air Jordan got chipped as well.  The start to Willow's Way broke off a couple of weeks ago, in light of what happened in the black hole, it seems like it was intentionally broken as well.

Fortunately everything still goes, but as Stu noted, all the chipped holds are sharper, more awkward/harder than before.

Big gigantic bummer and a little bit worrisome.
