HELP! Renaming Texas 'subtle racism' Route

For the OP ... the easy solution is list the name as "Unnamed" in the title and then in the details just note that the name is not listed because it is considered offensive by some. At that point the route is documented. Which in the big scheme of things is what is needed.

Don't change the name to "unnamed". An online database with hundreds of climbs titled "unnamed" would be severely hamstrung.

There are already 1300+ routes that are unmanned.

UnManned, you say? Not sure what you know that the rest of us don't, but happy to leave it that way.

Can somebody please help me understand what's racist about the route name "Aunt Jamima"?

Because they don't like black advertising role models. Racist!

What's next? Eskimo Pie name change? Oh, wait...

This is all part of the cancel culture's overreaction and hyperbolic responses.

Yep, and MP encourages you to name routes rather than post them as "unnamed". I just had it happen a week and a half ago. I posted a route that was unnamed in the guidebooks, and I was asked to give it a name for the purposes of the online database.

Just chiming in here to say that anyone who thinks that getting rid of objectively racist brand names is "whitewashing history" is a literal fucking moron.

Or perhaps I Stole Your Route.

You have utterly no business determining the name of this route, ever.

Whoa, someone's been quarantined too long.

For the record, I don't want to change the name, but if I/We don't MountainPolice.com will, so i opened this up to the community because...
1) This is hilarious
2) if the name IS gonna get changed, wouldn't you prefer we change it to something that considers it's past?

I dont understand why Aunt Jamima is offensive?
Sticky jams.  Because a black woman goes by a black name?  Who is offended?  Are they black?

OP, I checked my book, and the routes are not listed. Sorry I couldn't help.

Well, yes. If you can imagine, the black population is heavily underrepresented in the climbing community.

Well it is a whole lot easier to go after that and rant about rock climbing routes than it is to actually change anything... Just feel good stuff by dummies who do not understand or choose not to understand what kind of change is really being asked for.

Do you honestly see my words as reaction to an offense rather than support of a community to which I don't belong? You, in good faith, take my words as someone who has been offended?

The brand is based in racism. The company that owns it has said so and is changing it, with support from the black community. I support this as well.
