Can autolocking carabiners get unlocked and unclipped?

I think of it more like I'll bite you in the rearenddynamicis. Mechanical devices are maniacal they wait & wait (they know they have time) and then at the worst time possible all hell brakes out.

Since this wandered off into general gym practices, I'll clarify that the prerigged stuff is top rope only. I can't imagine any reason, inside or out, to not be tied in for a lead, unless it's some piece of a rope solo rig I'm not familiar with.

Well, not quite that dramatic, but my nut tool grabbed the loop on my shoe one time, pinning my leg up, lol! 

I fully agree stuff collaborates and connives devious plots while we innocently assume our crap is on our side...

That's a classic spell-check typo. 

FWIW Mark owned and operated an auto repair/machine shop business - transmissions, I believe - so when he refers to mechanical devices as being maniacal he knows of what he speaks   .
