Questions about how flagged posts being hidden will work

I see a new feature being rolled out where posts by users who are frequently flagged are automatically hidden. i think this is a really great feature, i just have a few questions about how it will work.

1. are users notified when their posts are flagged?
2. how many flags are going to be required to trigger post hiding?

1. Here is your notice; the feature works on your account saying you have been flagged a lot
2. Not sure but this is an interesting concept with no possibility for controversy

Haha, I think you got me!

Seems like it's wiping out entire threads, see: mountainproject.com/forum/t…

I can count on one hand the amount of posts I have contributed in total to this site and it just happened to me.

A social experiment?

What I’ve really learned at the end of the day is that we have all been flagged a lot.

Well it would work something along the lines of what you saw... but only for posts from users with a well-documented history of being a troll or jerk.

How does Nick Wilder define “being a troll or jerk”?

Mostly the same way the supreme court defines porn - I know it when I see it.

Actually it's often not that easy.  Intent and meaning are very often hard to understand.  It's a shitty job, nobody's ever happy about it, but someone needs to do it.

You might want to check the operation of the "new to me" red dot indicator as well - it may have suffered a side effect.

Interesting. I would imagine such a feature rollout would benefit from having a period where  users that are flagged be informed that their posts have been flagged and which posts were flagged. At least give those who are on the gruff side of "I speak the truth as I see it" a chance to tone it down if they'd like.

I know I've been flagged a bit, but have had relatively few posts pulled over the years.

Well, if you’re looking for ideas, I was once part of another online community that had a penalty box.

Essentially a locked forum where the trolls were sent and
could argue for days, and once they cooled off could return the main area.

I enjoy reading posts from internet trolls and those they butthurt for entertainment value.

will there be an option to all to show all flagged posts?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
