Any word on when the area might re-open for users?
Almost the end of the season- thanks for any help!

Though twice?

So Erik... you tell us, is it open? We need good information from locals. Last I hear- Bishop Locals- were directing traffic off of 395 at SunLand and over to Ed Powers Rd so Bishop is bypassed.... is this true? Or are the rumors true about the “Reptile Aliens” taking over the place? I can’t get any information.

No Guy, we are not directing traffic off 395 to bypass Bishop ----- WE are do this to shot anyone near us. The bodies are stackinguplikecordwood , it's almost as bad as Double Cross.

This isn't official word.  But it's no secret that DWP isn't a fan of climbing in the Owens River Gorge.  Now they finally have a good excuse to shutter it.  As Winston Churchill said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste".  I wouldn't hold your breath on it reopening.

I would not start worrying yet. DWP is working with a skeleton crew & just trying to get by right now. But if people want to get in their hair, it's easier for them to keep it closed. They like to think of themselves as stewards of the land they own, & that will probably get them to open it at sometime.

For what it's worth, I've heard that the employees working in the Gorge have little problem with climbers.  We keep out of their way and don't give 'em any grief.  They've always been cordial to me.

DWP has always been a good steward of the land. If it didn’t exist Bishop and surrounding mountains would be wall to wall “No Trespassing” signs allah Montana and The Milks would be on some dudes 4th vacation ranch and we could only LOOK at them over the fence. DWP has always welcomed climbers - just don’t mess with their stuff.
So just make sure to let me know when BISHOP is open again, I’m way behind on my FlyFishing and Sport Climbing.

Haha, first thing I thought. Even if it was the only place left in the world to climb and with no one around you couldn't pay me enough to hike down that gully and into that hell hole this time of year.

First, "ala" not allah, eh?

Second, our area too. Fortunately, we still have plenty of locals who will fight back when the richshits try to block even access to public lands when they feel like it.

Idaho is open, FYI. Just sayin'. Have a river or two here and there. :-)

Best, Helen

Nobody climbs in bishop anymore it's way too crowded.
Also, the temp is way over the top it's almost 10 a.m. and it's almost 70 outside I can not take it anymore. I have it on good authority from an Orange County Minister that the climbing is no good & all climbers in the Bishop area are Infidels.

Great temps in the gorge for a few days. Great climbing and not crowded. Was a little chilly in the shade yesterday. Finished a new 40m 10c with my daughter Makayla, just as the sun set

Glad they lifted the closure!

Running out of ammo & lime....
