I'm not sure what the deal was, but when my I loaded the app for the first time after the switch, I saw Access Fund where REI used to be... That would be nice. But I like the baseless speculation, I am going to say Moosejaw/Walmart will be our new corporate overlords.

since when is it good to hide knowledge of climbing areas from people just because you think its getting too crowded? This is one of the most selfish, anti-mountainproject comments I’ve seen to date. This site is to HELP people find places to climb, not hide it from them because we dont wanna wait our turn on a particular route or problem.

People don't need help to find places to climb or what to climb. They only THINK they do. This is a commercial project intended to make $$$ for some...not something being done out of the goodness of people's hearts or out of a genuine connection to a slice of creation.

When I share a new route its out of the stoke of sharing and because it won't be in a guide for many years...and also wanting something that had to be cleaned to stay clean.

But a real guidebook does not publish routes that the FA does not want in the guide. That is the tradition in Yosemite (Eric Sloan not withstanding).

Nothing is being taken or hidden from anyone. The rock is still there and nothing prevents anyone from climbing it...other than their lack of imagination and willingness to venture into the unknown and actually BE a climber instead of just a consumer.

we have two very different outlooks on this. MP is the only way for me as a beginner to find new places, especially since I'm based in Va. That's why I think it's an important platform as it is how I've gotten to boulder outside so much for a beginner.

I suggest that your outlook will become informed in time when you see a place you currently love get trashed.

What you think you "need" right now is not what you need.
