For some time now, I have felt the moderating around here to be quite unusual, lame and biased. The other day, I had a post "vanished", gone, pooofff, no sign of it whatsoever. Not "this post violated..bla bla bla." I put some time and effort into this post. Sure, I began with a little snark. I said "panties in a bunch" to another poster that disagreed with me. Is that actually offensive? Then, I went on about economic theory and history. I did email the admin asking for an explanation, but no reply was given. Anybody else have this happen. Things like this truly discourage me from giving much thought or effort to posts or even participating at all in the future.
This site really only has two things that give it value (imo), the route database and the forums. If the people disappear from the forums (trolls included) , this site with have less value. So what can we do? When that cute little questionnaire pops up I alway suggest that they stop deleting people. Maybe we all need to reply this way.
I suspect this post will be deleted in 3, 2, 1....

You may have missed the essence of my post. Some people put time and effort into the forums, generally care, try to make contributions of value, have sincere conversation, some humor and jokes, as well. And some people just take a few seconds spew whatever comes out of their mouth in an effort to insult. And these post don't get deleted. (edit: see above and below) This is the only online forum that I participate in. So, yes, I care. I wish I didn't.

I suspect this post will be deleted in 3, 2, 1.... Y'all realize that the MP forum software isn't exactly bug free?

I’ve posted a ton of stuff in the “for free” forum and never had an issue, but I make one comment about how REI is encouraging responsible outdoor recreation (as opposed to saying stay home no matter what), and it’s gone? No, but they definitely exist. I once had a "Thanks for the info" reply vanish into the ether, so there are database fails from time to time. I've always agreed with the idea of moderators/MP Team should provide a detailed enough reason for the deletion of a post if it's something different than someone being a jerk.

People were talking about Free Speech, capitalism, and conservative ideas. And we can't have those on here, so the thread needed to be locked down ASAP.
Its important to maintain a hive mind.
Remember, Orange Man Bad.

Remember, Orange Man Bad. That is not what that thread was about. That thread was about shaming people who are taking the pandemic seriously and was a blatant troll. And it’s cute that you still think that just bc orange man puts an “R” next to his name that he preaches conservative ideas. He does nothing more than pander to whoever will buy into his BS and fear mongering.

You realize that the primary way comments come to the attention of a moderator is that other participants flag them. So if 10 people flag your post as spam or racist or whatever, it'll get zapped.
It's entirely possible, too, that as the owners of the site REI has some sort of keyword search flagging posts about them, specifically, for review. None of that is particularly surprising, though. Nor sinister.

As far as I’m aware, MP’s stance is that it doesn’t do this (as per admin comments on different threads). So...where are they going? I've had that happen a couple times, too. My guess is it's a glitch. Mine weren't anything controversial.
