Never split this bad before. Obviously I need time off. But what kind of care can I give it for maximum healing of the skin? It is clean that’s just imprisoned dry blood around it. Put neosporin on it last night. Extremely painful to climb on. Obvi. And how long until it’s good to climb on? Was planning on maybe 4-5 rest days.

Ah that’s fucked. But yeah may need some serious rest. What did you do as far as covering it? Dry vs wet? Antibiotics vs none

Never had one that bad, but typically you'd sand the edges down as much as you can so that nothing pulls on the split making it larger. Sanding and taping before climbing helps a lot. You can also salve it at night right before bed.

So that guy would get packed with salve every night and wrapped in tape.
I would still train which would involve tape new skin and super glue. (Edit) constant sanding was part of the process.

As a add to the neosporin/bandaid combo, try to heal it in a straight position so that opening it doesn’t re-split. If your dip joint is hypermobile, you should also do a thin layer of salve under tape when climbing to keep it moist enough that it doesn’t split under the tape. keep taping and bandaiding after it heals for awhile. Your skin is still prone to re-splitting for awhile once healed

I agree with the Neosporin and tape during the day but reapply the salve with a breathable bandage at night. Medical data shows that all minor skin injuries heal twice as fast if you keep them covered, even without the salve.
And has been said, sanding/cutting off the calluses that caused the split is necessary.

Lacking supplies or just too cheap to buy any (dirty bags), put some neo on it at night and leave uncovered unless you have a nice breathable bandage. If you wake up look under the bandage and the wound is pruned, ya blew it, and lost a night of healing.

I’ve been loosely putting a bandaid on it at night with some salve neosporin combo. It’s so deep though I imagine i need 5+ more days to heal it completely.

Tristin, looks better! pack that baby with neo and tape during the day so you can climb on it, clean really good at night, air it out, and then reapply neo before bed time. Should be 100 in a day or two.

You should keep trimming back the edges and sanding, as it’s looking a bit more jagged than your first pix

Try super glue. It bonds instantly to skin and provides some strength to the damaged area, so that it will stop tearing as it heals. I use super glue in a gel because it is easier to control application. Do not bond it to your band-aid or tape though.
