2 Ice Questions

I have some questions about southern NH/southern VT ice.

1) How can I find out what's in in those places?
2) I might be over in that area next weekend, and I'd love a TR partner or a good leader (I'm an excellent belayer and follower). I'm decent with rock but very new to ice. I've got 12 TRs under my belt and will probably have about 8 more after this weekend. I'm trying to rack up some mileage before the end of the season. Is anyone in the area down to climb with? I'd buy you all the beer you want and dinner afterward.

Also will shout out on the partners page.

There is a guidebook for the Monadnock region available locally in Keene (The Monadnock Conservancy had a bunch of copies) that lists some ice in that area but other than that I believe it is all word of mouth. Keene railroad cut is usually in but can be pretty chipped out and probably not worth any long drive.

Cheese Cut has some great ice when it’s in but the two mile hike in would be a real bummer if there was no ice when you got there (as was the case last time I hiked out there).

Todd Swain’s guidebook? Didn’t realize it was out yet.

Todd’s book is not out yet... a Keene local put out a guide to the Monadnock region. Mostly rock but a few ice areas listed in it. Very much worth the money if you live near Southern NH.... and all proceeds benefit the Monadnock Conservancy which is a local access group that has done a lot of work in opening local climbing areas. It’s a win win

Unfortunately, it appears to be sold out at the moment.

I picked up a copy at the office for the Monadnock Conservancy in downtown Keene.... they may still have copies.

I will be in Western MA at the beginning of March. Does anyone think there will be any ice still in during that time?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
