They are horrible. Use nothing after learning that PayPal owns Venmo

A lack of a "goods and services" selling feature with increased security for both buyer and seller on venmo invalidates your argument.

Also not the correct place for a discussion thread.

Regardless of Venmo owning PayPal, Venmo is still much more user friendly than PayPal. It doesn’t make me type in my social security info just to send 20 fuckin dollars. It’s a bit faster overall and I guess as an impatient American that works best for me.

Also in regards to Davis’s comment.. I actually like that we’re talking about this on the sell/trade forum because 90 percent of the people on here don’t have Venmo and want me to use freakin PayPal. I refuse!! lol

That’s the reason why I posted it but Davis didn’t get the message. Venmo is a lot better imo. Thanks for backing me up!

So, why don’t you like PayPal?

PayPal requires more personal info to use their app. Which is Bullshit in my opinion. In order to use the PayPal app you have to confirm your full social security number, address, and photo ID. That’s just ridiculous to provide that sensitive info just to send small amounts of money. I’m not banking with them, I’m not trying to give them all of my info. I’ve had transactions bounce and decline several times. The app is overall less streamline. I think they charge more to send transactions (I know Venmo charges for this also). Mainly it’s just not as user friendly and makes you jump through more bureaucratic hoops.

Correct, if you’ve stayed logged in and consistently used your app you will be grandfathered in. When I stopped using the app for months and tried to use it again, they were gonna make me go through all those steps. So I just deleted my account.

PayPal requires more banking info to use it and avoid pointless fees. Im not down with that. It's too nosey. Venmo ftw, anyone who only uses PayPal is like a caveman

Also once I accidentally bought something on PayPal right when i automatic payments take most of my money. PayPal "loaned" me the money without asking or telling me about it. Two days later I check my bank and i have like seven overdraft fees for $30 each

Similar experience here. To pay someone I needed to designate a source for the funds. I used a bank account with not too much $ in it (I was going to close it once it was empty). PP also needs a "backup source", so I gave them my credit card. Well, there wasn't enough in the bank to cover the purchase (I knew this, but they had my CC for the rest of the amount). So they dinged me $30 for insufficient funds. Then charged my card. Then went back and tried the bank account 10 days later and dinged me a second $30. When they already had my money from the CC. Grr!!!

While I do hate PayPal, they are one of the few services that provide "insurance" in case shit hits the fan (theoretically). I have done multiple transactions upwards of $5K using PayPal with no issue. I think the reason they require more information is primarily because they are targeted towards transactions larger than the ones done on this forum....with that said, I agree that more people on this forum should get Venmo.

They held a payment from me for a week because they said it was a suspicious transaction. They wanted me to contact the buyer about it and it made me look like I was trying to rip him off or something. Ive never had one issue or dispute after using them for years. I could barely understand them on the phone and they did nothing to help. Messing with peoples money is not cool. I was livid about it but could do nothing. In the end the buyer received the package and had to actually tell PayPal he got it before I could access it.

I’ve used them for14-15yrs and they’ve helped me plenty when I’ve been ripped off on eBay.  I’ve transferred money to friends & family with no issues, as well as transferred to me.  It really sucks that so many people have had issues with PayPal, but your bound to have issues when thousands of people use your site.

I don't trust people on the internet so I'll never use anything but paypal GS for online purchases. It's dumb to use venmo when sending hundreds of dollars to a stranger IMO... I don't really like paypal but there aren't any good alternatives with buyer protection that I know of.

"Venmo is unique in that it has a social networking component. By default, all peer-to-peer Venmo transactions—aside from the payment amount—are public, to everyone in the world."

Yeah no thanks.  Crappy apps that share your info by default suck.  Especially on a money transfer app.  It shouldn't even be an option.  But by all means use an app that claimed to have bank grade encryption and has anything but.

I think it would be telling if folks noted their ages in their comments.
For all of PayPal's flaws, I prefer it to doing business on a social media platform.

As the person who was trying to send the money in this case, it was extremely frustrating.  There was no notice telling me that Paypal had arbitrarily put a hold on my payment.  It was listed as sent and after John let me know what was going on I had to spend a couple days talking with customer service reps from Paypal to convince them I had received the package.  They claimed there was a function on a certain page to acknowledge receipt, but after sending them multiple screenshots of the page, it was clear that what they were asking me to click did not exist.  After sending them screenshots of the USPS page that confirmed the package was received, a rep said that they had released the funds.
Bump for good seller
