Anyone know of a good shoulder doctor/specialist in the San Diego area? I’ve had this nagging injury for almost two years, been to two different docs and went through physical therapy twice with no luck...

Tell us where it hurts.

The last criteria for choosing a Dr is location.

I mean no offense, but the poster above has chosen to avoid surgery and so has gone a year to get one pull up?

When I injured my shoulder I went for the surgery ASAP. I was back on 5.11 and better in a year. It's still my better shoulder. And FWIW the injury was not trivial.

YMMV. But check out Kerlan Jobe. Near LAX. Great place. Bring your tablet or whatever fully charged, you'll always wait there, but it's worth it.

I had a pretty debilitating shoulder injury that started a few years back. A super cool doctor friend of mine who is also a climber took a look at it with his ultrasound machine. He could see pockets of fluid, that showed up as dark areas, and tearing of the labrum as I recall. That was 2016. I did absolutely nothing for it, other than dialing down the frequency of climbing to once a week and kept the climbs very mellow. Now in 2020 I am completely pain free and have great range of motion.

It all depends on the nature of the injury. If a surgeon says you shouldn't have surgery that's most likely to be sound advice. I should have made it clear above that my injury left me with no choice. When the doc looked at my mri has said "Look at that. You tried to tear your arm off but the skin held it on." Yikes.

On another occasion with the same doc, looking at my other shoulder he said surgery was not the answer, got me in with a good PT, and that worked.

Sorry if my first post came off as short.

Another thing about shoulder injuries is they come in two different categories; traumatic and degenerative. My first injury was traumatic, the second more degenerative.
