Does anyone have connections or information regarding Southern India?

Yes. Where specifically? What kind of climbing are you interested in?

Hey guys, I'm also trying to climb around the Bangalore area for the next few weeks. Open to traveling to Badami as well. Mostly interested in trad and sport.

Any information for these areas would be great.

I’m open to any and all suggestions regarding India :) I just know most of my time will be spent in Southern India at an ashram. I mostly climb; trad, sport and bouldering.

Unfortunately, I will not be in India any time soon and don’t have any information to share, sorry. Best of luck!

There’s good granite bouldering, sandstone sport climbing and bolted/mixed technical slab routes with intermittent crack systems that are from 1-6 pitches long in south India. The bouldering is probably the most common - there’s good stuff around Chennai and Bangalore but the motherlode is at Hampi. The sandstone is virtually all in one spot: Badami. And the multipitch is scattered around the Bangalore area (there’s a guidebook for all the roped climbs around Bangalore).

But South India is big and you can’t really visit these places over a weekend if you’re not nearby. Local climbing communities can be reached through their Facebook pages (this is the best way to get partners and beta) - Bangalore, Chennai and Kerala have relatively active communities (I’ve listed them in decreasing order of size/activeness).

The Bangalore climbing community is very responsive to a post on their FB page. Someone (probably Sohan, who administers the page and wrote the guidebook for the area) will get in touch and add you to their climbing group. Trip plans are generally made through WhatsApp - if you don’t have that on your phone, I recommend downloading it before you leave the US (harder to do this overseas if you do not have international roaming).

Thank you for all the beta Gokul G!!! Very much appreciated!

Hey all! Excited to see options to climb while I’m visiting Bangalore. I’m able to climb 25-28, only brought my shoes for gym climbing and would love a chance to get somewhere on real rock. Looking forward to being able to make a plan. Cheers!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
