CCC Canal Zone Lot Closing

There is currently a big flashing sign in the Canal Zone lot saying it will be closed starting the 18th through the 16th of November next year. That lot always gets packed with climbers carpooling further into Clear Creek. Are there any good options on where people should park instead? I don't think the next couple lots up the canyon are large enough and options in downtown Golden will be a nuisance to residents. As for climbing at canal zone, there is the chimney gulch trailhead or walking under the highway from Golden. For a year long closure, should the "getting there" text be changed, or just an access issue banner?

I've used the Coors Tek lot directly east of the AMC quite a few times to leave a car for the day.

It sounds like all parking up to tunnel one will likely be closed until fall of 2020.

Yay, like the BoCan mess. Why so long??

Ugh so a whole season screwed up.

It will be impossible to climb at Canal zone with this parking lot closure. Go climb somewhere else.

Kind of sounds like an ideal time to climb there - park at the ball park, walk 15 minutes up the river path to the bridge, and have the crag to yourself!,

ssshhh!

even though it's an inconvenience, those of us that climb regularly in the canyon can agree that parking lot is in well need of a makeover!!

Let's hope they put in stairs to the trail.

Do we know they're actually making improvements to the lot? Or is it just staging for construction? Agreed though, that place is a nightmare.

Word on the street is that it will be a paved lot with a bathroom.

If they're gonna close it down that long, I hope so. That parking lot suuuuuuucks. If you get there early enough, sometimes it's almost impossible to get out because people have no concept of how to park in there.

I've always thought a bathroom was needed there, but then also imagined that maintenance of it would need to be extremely frequent. Plus, I imagine it would need to be locked over night.

Project description indicates that the existing parking lot will become a picnic area with stairs to the trail. New lot will be east of the existing lot. New parking will include 140 spaces, split between two lots. Second lot appears to be upstream on the north side of Clear Creek before Tunnel One.

It looks like you’ll be able to park at Tunnel 1 for closer access to Canal Zone.

And look at the new parking lot compared to existing (existing circled in red).  Awesome.

Other than climbers and tubers...anyone know who all the other users are at that lot?  I'm always a bit mystified by the number of people who park there.  I guess there's hikers too, though seems like there's better hikes around.

some people use it as a park n ride lot for carpooling up the canyon to other crags (i personally don't but i see plenty of it)

People park to go gambling in Black Hawk too.

Its a good meetup spot for carpooling to skiing too if your from Boulder meeting somebody from Golden and want to miss the Floyd Hill shit show.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
