What’s the deal, Nebraska?

Is there actually no climbing in Nebraska or do the locals there just hold their cards even closer to their chests than, say, folks in Montana?

Ever been to Nebraska?

I once met a group of climbers from Nebraska at J-Tree. I asked them if there was any climbing in Nebraska, and they said, 'Yeah, Colorado'. I'll take their word for it.

On a related note, there isn't even a link to Nebraska in the climbing directory on MP. Even Louisiana has a link, albeit with 0 routes. Nebraska doesn't even have a link.

Yeah, man. I didn’t see much rock. Heck, I don’t recall even seeing any trees.

There is exposed rock in the NW part of the state, but everything I have ever driven past (not much) is choss.

The approach for the climbing in Nebraska should just be get back on I 80 and keep driving. West.

I could tell you about this great Nebraska crag, but then I’d have to kill you.

I recall hearing about a friend of a friend with a project to climb a boulder problem on rock in all 50 states, and it was only Louisiana that truly stumped him. The implication being that he was able to find something in Nebraska.

Behold!!!

The fabled Nebraska climbing route.

EDIT: Seems like only one route and some boulder problems.

I don't believe you when you say this is in Nebraska. And regardless of where this may be located, it looks absolutely stellar! I think it would be worth the risk of you telling me...

It’s a secret. I shall spray about how great it is in instaspray.com but will not divulge any useful information...ever. Besides, Aron’s posted crag is a  5 star world destination classic, for sure.

An anonymous informant sent me the photo below of another Nebraska secret spot. I just knew there was some decent stuff there.

Why do you think that Nebraska is known as New Spain, aka España Nueva?

Yeah, that’s the subsidiary crag. Not much development there (yet). It is a looong hike though, at least 20 minutes.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
